Ahhhh inflation and the American economy. Good thing minimum wage just went up! Everyone start demanding a raise! :D

Your not implying knowledgeable employees like Matt are paid that wage are you? That'd be a shame.

Nope.. but I'm a knowledgeable employee for a company elsewhere, and I get paid that... That a problem?? Minimum wage is not a shame, you should be ashamed for saying that anyone getting paid minimum wage is shameful.

I'm simply saying... when the minimum wage goes up.. employers have to pay employees more.. and so they up the prices of their goods... people see prices going up (including rent) and demand for higher wages... this 'price wage spiral' should be fairly familiar for californians, since inflation is huge right now.

Your attitude certainly does not make you a very reasonable person when it comes to passing judgement on how good an LFS is.

I never said getting paid by minimum wage is a shameful thing, rather if an employer pays his knowledgeable employees minimum wage, then shame on him.

I have been paid minimum wage at one time and never felt ashamed. You prove to your boss you are indispensable to his business and you will get paid more. Either your not that valuable and are dispensable, or your vast knowledge is not critical to the business you are in.

Remember "minimum wage" by definition is a wage paid to the most green employees or the least critical positions. It can't be any lower than that. Nothing to be ashamed of if you start at that level though.

I must point out as a formal college guy that the situation in colleges are a little different than in the real world. Many students assist in research and academics get paid close to the minimum, yet their skill and knowledge are certainly more than a high school kid who makes the same wage doing things much less critical. But that is not the norm rather a trade off because in college you supposed to earn little (that barely keeps you alive) in exchange for the knowledge and skills that one may accumulate and hopefully will bring in much more in the future.

Just want to be clear what environment we are referring to when I was talking about minimum wage, not your average college student research/assistance jobs.

Well... perhaps I wasn't referring to my research, which I happen to get paid $0/hr to do. Not every job is about the money. I currently have 4 jobs, two of which pay $0/hr, one which pays $7.50/hr, and owning my own business DJ'ing puts food on the table.

My attitude is simply a reflection of your inability to accept the fact that people have opinions. It's ridiculous to flame people for going against anothers opinion.

For example... Look at the first post of this thread.. ALL CAPS, LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE ADVERTISING ON CRAIGSLIST SAYING EXOTIC IS THE BEST PLACE ON EARTH. That's okay, no need to get upset with him, it's an opinion. So I took his advice, went to check out the new store, and didn't feel the same way. Rather than misinform the users of this forum with a lopsided opinion that Exotic is simply the best, I stated my own opinion which readers can evaluate using their own judgement.

Please don't make assumptions for others, myself included, airinhere, and all of the readers who read but seldom post.

It is not unreasonable to have an impression after reading the above sentence that you might have considered the employees at LFS are paid minimum wage, but I did not assume my impression was right rather asked you to clarify.

Why was that a flame?

You then assumed what I had meant by the use of the word "shame" without clarification, I then corrected you and stated my opinions, where did you get the idea I could not accept the fact that you may have different opinions?

There is certainly a difference between accepting the fact that others may have different opinions, vs having to accept other's opinions. I hope you are not insisting the latter.

Did I assume you may be getting paid little for doing researches at UC? Yes I did based on your signature which I suppose is trying to tell us just that. So I plead guilty of making assumption about you that I thought you were clearly trying to convey. But wait, in this case we actually have agreement, you in fact went a little further to strengthen my opinion that college work does not compare to a job in the normal business conditions. You get paid nothing for doing probably more complex work than LFS work.

So now your saying not every job is about money. Well maybe so but you can't just make up topics as you go along. What we have been discussing here is indeed a type of job that intended to put food on one's table, not volunteering, so if you want to go that route your in the wrong thread. Start another one please.

You are certainly correct that readers will form their own opinions of our posts. I have no problem with that at all.

See we actually agree more often than you think.
