The new GEM of the tank

I am one that likes rare fish. But that one just does nothing for me. I wish you luck with it.

I don't get it...the powder brown and blue tangs are so much more attractive.

It's rare...I understand, but it doesn't do anything for me.

Here's the kicker, someone outside the hobby (and most in the hobby) will never even know that it's rare, they'll be more excited about the $30 ocellaris...

Best of luck though, and enjoy.

Not to brow beat, but this is why you wont buy one. He liked the fish, so he did. I'll never understand the rationale for someone to say "I dont understand why you bought that fish. I dont like it". Well, unless you're paying for it, thats rather inconsequential, no?

I have always liked the Zebrosoma family of tangs, They are personaly my favorite fish. I do also love the Gold Rim tangs as well. But i have owned every other Zebro tang so far and I always told myself when the time is right I will pick up a Gem tang. Although they were cheaper about 13 years ago when I first found out about them, they were still out of my price range. Being that i was only 17 at the time and I didn't have a real job.

personaly i dont give a flip what anyboby likes or dislikes about my tank(s), i dont have tanks for other peoples enjoyment my tanks are for me , if some one likes one or all of my fish fine if they dont thats fine as well, unless they are buying my fish/corals/tank supplies and they are paying my house payment, utility bills, taxes ect then its none of thier buisness which fish i choose or what i spend on a fish..the one exception to the above is my wife

jaa1456 congrats on getting one of your dream fish, i hope your able to enjoy him for a very very looooooooooooong time

Hey, I'm not saying you shouldn't have gotten it...I just said it's not my cup of tea.

If you got the fish for YOU, then I'm all for it, by all means enjoy it!

Buying living creatures just because they are rare is dumb. Most people don't know the difference between a rare fish and any other fish, and eventually fish die.

As I said, best of luck and enjoy the fish.

Yes I know most people don't know the difference between one fish to another, but I'm not most people and just about any other reefer would recognize any different fish being a wrasse, clown or whatever. But hey how about all the money in corals and everything else you have and someone comes over and goes "oh look its nemo"

Its this type of rhetoric that drives me nuts. You contradict yourself! "Hey if its for you, then good for you- good buy! But, other people dont know what it is, so its dumb". :worried:

Usually your logic, people who buys cars, houses, clothes, food, etc etc etc are "dumb", because all that stuff dies/decays/becomes unusable at some point anyway. Only people who buy things that last forever are not dumb.

You dont seem to get that people buy what they like and what moves them. If it doesnt impress you, do you think that effects the person that bought it? Whether its "rare", "ugly", or whatever you wish to classify it as. it doesn't make ANYONE dumb for wanting it and getting it.

^You didn't bother to READ my post, or you interpreted in a way that suited your need to post a graph that you find particularily funny.

Allow me to clarify for the cheap seats:

Buying it ONLY because it's rare, to have as a status symbol, and not because he likes the fish would be dumb.

If he bought it because he likes it, then it's a good buy!

It sounds like he had his heart set on it from when he was planning a big tang setup, so I'm all for it in this instance.

Yes, I did read it. You dont seem to understand that your proclamations of how smart people are, based on their spending isnt useful to anyone, anywhere. Unless you are that persons accountant. Or mom. Wait, is that you, mom? Its hard to tell from way up here in the cheap seats.

that is kinda funny MOM, lol. I never buy something on impulse or because it's rare. I mean I have regular brown polyps in my tank, not because I like them but the GF loves them. I also like the hairy shrooms which aren't outrageous in price. And I have yet to buy a scoly because they have no appeal to me. So like they say Beauty is in the Eye of the beholder.

Beautiful fish! Did you mention how big it is? Looks like a good size specimen.

So like they say Beauty is in the Eye of the beer-holder.

Fixed it for you.

HTH

P.S. I'm not getting in the middle of this thread. I am right now drinking a 20 oz soda that happens to remind me to stay away from these particular situations.

Nice Tang!!

Nice haha. There is nothing to get in the middle of LOL. It's all about your own tank and what you want in it. Everything else is just an opinion.

That is a handsome Tang, & I like it. But I don't have any kind of set-up for such a fish, so its price or rarity is irrelevant to me.
