The new GEM of the tank

Nice Gem!!! Forget all the haters, if they had the cash they'd have one too...
I'm not worried about the haters or if they have the cash or not. This was never about look at my new expensive fish. It was always to me, hey look at my fish that I have always wanted and finally had the chance to get. I'm really thinking of adding a black and purple tang to the mix.

Not to brow beat, but this is why you wont buy one. He liked the fish, so he did. I'll never understand the rationale for someone to say "I dont understand why you bought that fish. I dont like it". Well, unless you're paying for it, thats rather inconsequential, no?

couldn't have said it better...

Cheers, man. It's a nice looking fish and it is great to get something that you've had your eye on for so long. I've definitely got a wish list for when I have real money and a "real" system ;) :)

Thanks for posting the photos. I believe I have only seen photos of gem tangs in books or poor cell phone photos, because I never realized how attractive they are. Congrats on the serendipity!

I will try to post more pics soon, I have a busy weekend ahead of me though. The Tang is swimming around more and the colors have I guess say sharpened up a little bit more. And thanks for all the compliments. And being this is my first Gem tang I have had no experience keeping it with other fish, but banking on all my experience I should be able to introduce a few other tangs with it.

Why is it so rare? Is it hard to import from its country of origin? Beautiful fish by the way!!!

1. Not typically found in groups, more common in singles

2. Typically found at deeper locations compared to other tangs

3. Collection is more concentrated to specific locations, and only a few divers collect them.

4. Shipping from collection point is pricey.

Smaller ones can usually be seen in shallower waters, adults in deep waters which is why adults typically are not seen in the hobby.

They are found naturally over a relatively broad range, but are only exported from Mauritus (typically), and the freight is substantial. That and market demand.

Am pretty happy to find this GEM at some1 who genuinely deserve to keep it!!!!
This fish when caught was around 3 inch. It stayed more than 1 year in my tank!!! The oldest fish I kept in my Stock!!! This fish was caught at 25m. It fed mainly on Ocean nutrition pellets 2 and nori's but ate other food I offered too!!!
attached are the picts back then!!! Am sure he is happier in ur tank!!!
