the new ORA Bird of Paradise Seriatopora

Got mine today. Was $50. Hey, I don't think it's too bad. I didn't have to pay shipping, so............

very nice piece.

the pearlberry cost is cheaper than the red planet or the seriatapora. you can also get 3 pearlberry at a time and only one rp or bop. pricing the pearlberry higher seems kind of odd.

let's see what people in other parts of the country chime in with on pricing. $60 is as low as I could see this one going for at regular price in an lfs unless it is in a barn, picked up out of the bag, or fragged first then sold as a whole piece. if you actually look at how much it cost and the absurd price ora charges for shipping $50 just won't keep you in business.

i am guessing there are lots of high school students working at the store where they go for $50? if you only get one why would you want it to walk out with the first customer that walks in the door when you only have one to sell? someone is willing to pay at least $60 for this coral on day one. Florida fish store customers are spoiled I think. maybe Im just jealous? Most fish stores wouldn't sell this to an employee for fifty dollars!

my pov is obviously different from most of the others on this thread. i just don't get it...

how much do most stores in fla sell the ora fish for? let's compare Picasso clown prices. around here they are 150-200 dollars a piece after the vip discount.

I'm not sure what other LFS price their ORA corals or fish for, but my LFS uses LA and Divers Den as a pricing guide, for cryin' out loud!

It's a quite common coral here in Europe (in good LFS or online stores) , it's a Seriatopora guttatus (very similar to the S.caliendrum) .

Here are 2 pics of mine

Looks like a fast grower!

My LFS bought a crap load of corals from them so maybe they got a reduced price. I don't know. But they also had two of them not just one!

Thanks.. btw.. it's a coral who loves T5 and HQI , but with T5 is easier to mantain the green color of the coral body.

Actually is just a Montipora samarensis trying to not get killed by purple cap .
Where they touch the orange/red branching dies .. sadly the M.samarensis is a fairly slow grower compared to the more common M.digitata.

my guess would be that these pics dustin from ORA posted of his office tank several years ago is the same thing as well, i remember when he posted these almost 2 years ago because everyone thought it was some sort of german blue polyp monti.

Hats off to ORA for marketing the same thing that is out there already (as is the case with most of their corals) and getting people to pay XXX for them.

In my opinion, the Ponape Birdsnest is much better than this "new" release from ORA.

But I guess, if you buy a colony from someone in Europe X amount of years ago and have to wait to have enough frags to be able to meet supply with demand then by the time you release it...it's not NEW anymore.

hmmmmm....lets see 3/4" fresh cut frag of Ponape for $80.00 plus shipping or the ORA 1" plus encrusting frag for $40.00 local P/U.

Man that is a tuff one.

If you're paying 80 for a 3/4" frag of ponape then you're shopping at the wrong spot IMO.

you are absolutely right.

Now Now......Not everybody has a LFS down the street. So to get these things they have to pay a higher price. Feel good if you are one of the lucky ones.....I sure do.

So stop bashing the prices. It's called free market and everybody is free to buy or sell anything for what they want or what they can get. If you don't agree that's your opinion. So lay off a bit! I don't agree either but I don't even look at those places for corals.

I got the bird of paradise today and i am not a big fan of birdsnests by any means.i saw it at a lfs and i was impressed . i had no idea it was a new release but i knew i had not seen it around before.it will be only the second birdsnest i have ever owned since i have been keeping corals.i would have paid more then the 60 it cost to get it though, given the fact that it was a big ,encrusted and very healthy looking coral.
