If you take in to account that the Earth has survived this long and every thing has evolved to what it has become now. Species have used the old termanolgy "survival of the fittest". Meaning species capable of handeling what comes it way survives and then flurishes and mate and many years down the road we get a new species! That is how the world has evolved for many many many many years. Yes we need to take care of our planet but do not scare everyone half to death.

*sarcasm on* Ummm, excuse me? Sir? Pardon me. I would just like to point out that, well, your planet is having some problems. Maybe you would like to look at the data...oh, I'm sorry, you look to be very busy. I'll come back later. *sarcasm off*

The fact is that this stuff IS pretty scary. I personally don't want to live through a mass extinction (which we already are, unfortunately) and make humanity wait a couple million years for evolution to take its course.

I'm waiting for the day this planet exterminates us. Couldn't say I'd blame it... you don't see any other animals exploiting it as well as we do. :D And before I get jumped on... NO I'm not out hugging trees. I should be but I am not. Just a little Cherokee heritage showing through with my belief that some things are more important than the fate of humanity... survival of the fittest... we shall see, we shall see.

It's scary when I wonder what is going to survive these upcoming generations after many plants and animals get *snuffed out*
It's going to be all the scrappy animals (I'm thinking roaches, weeds, and such?) that were able to live and thrive in less than optimal conditions.
Gone will be the days of the giants like elephants and whales.
:mixed:

You better duck and cover. Do you have a fire extinguisher? :)

 Those things can kill sharks w/out any weapons... just a good ole poke w/ the nose. My $ is on mosquito warfare...

Speaking of weaponized dolphins...

I just saw recently released footage (freedom of informaion act) were the millitary was training nurse sharks for clandestine work. They were trained to retreive hoops for a reward. It was from the 50's im guessing. No joke...

I also worked with and know people that trained dolphins for the navy. They can be used to find divers and attach a float to them so they surface. I'm sure they do other things to the diver but they don't like to talk about that.

Ahh yes, the freedom of information act... there's a whole new thread.

Sugartooth, maybe we'll end up w/ whalephants? There's a species I'd regret never seeing... I'm sure some of our animals would survive and would just adapt to new food sources. I strongly believe in the power of nature to overcome adversity. Our well known domesticated dogs and cats were wild at one point and have done a pretty good job of exploiting us... my dog just gives me "the look" and I know it's time to escort him to the bathroom. ;) Being an Akita he still has some wild blood in him for sure but he knows where his bread is buttered... no more bear hunting for him. :)

I know, it's weird isn't it? Some dolphins got loose after Katrina too. I think a couple even had poison dart things on their head.

I would like to ask those who "care" about the earth why they do nothing about the underlying problem, population. The continuing increase in resource utilization is caused by unchecked population growth. That is the disease, everything else is a symptom. The Greens want to treat the symptoms but won't attack the underlying problem becasue its too hard.
Why conserve when in 50 years we will be using twice as much anyway? Where is the gain?

thing is, how are we supposed to control poppulation? we can't, well, not without becoming Nazi's, but that would mean we would have to do the goostep :D but the truth is there is no "nice" way to control the poppulation.
