You've finally got me irritated enough to say something.

Have you guys noticed you're the only club in all of reef central that regularly send comments about personalities and beer all over cyberspace? People on reef central don't care about Dallas's quirks, or how much beer you drank last week. Other clubs don't litter reefcentral with this sort of stuff.

And have you noticed you've had trouble attracting new members? There are a whole lot of people in the area doing saltwater, who also don't care about your personal remarks(which don't belong here).

I've been to one of your meetings, and it was most pleasant. However, I've been so put off by all the inside jokes and personal references that I haven't come back.

Think about it.

Normally i don't post anything to prolong a squabble but i feel i need to step in here.

I consider it freindly joking with a freind. dallas thinks its funny, just as other people do.

Sorry to hear that you have some kind of a problem with attitudes. if you were to hang out a little more often you would probably get the "inside jokes" . i myself only come on every so often but i find it entertaining and have no plans of stopping. me and dallas are buddies....... uh, did i just say that???? j/k :) i have done many trades with him and have helped him out .as he has also helped me out. At the up coming seasl meeting i plan on helping him out by giving him some parts to hopefully finish off his skimmer. he is also going to help me out by bringing me my pump i bought from him 6 months ago. He is a good freind , and i do value his freindship.

As far as the seasl meetings go. seasl has actually grown quite a bit in the last couple years. my first meeting 2 yrs ago that i went to had around eleven people there(actual people there , not total memebership thats alot more). last meeting we had around 25 people there(again total people actually there, not total memebership). to me that is quite a difference. there could be even more memebers if we were to advertise more agressively which i will probably help with this up coming fall.

greetings to all and may your tanks overflow with corals.

steven

P.S. HEY DALLAS YOU SHOULD SEE THE SIZE OF THAT BLASTOMUSSA I GOT FROM YOU. ITS GETTING BIG. ;)

Bill,

I (Dallas) would also like to comment. I feel that SEASL as a whole is a very close group and we are very accepting of other people and new hobbiers. For example just a few years ago Griss took 3 hours out of his day just so that I could come over and pick up a anemone and learn from him. I have found that everyone is like that. I have spent hours taling with Steven and Mark as well, sometimes not even about ReefKeeping. We are all great friends here and thats why you find the topic isint always about reefkeeping. However when a topic comes up about reefkeeping we try go help out as much as we can and really get the person as much information as we can. Also I would like to say I hope we do see you at meetings and hope we can learn and share with you. I would not want to lose a fellow reefer just because we tend as a club to get off track from time to time. Let any one of us know what we can do to help. We would be glad to.

Wow Bill, I think you are sadly mistaken. If you actually look at some of the other club forums here on RC you will see that the SEASL forum is quite tame. I should know, I moderate the club forum here on RC. While we have had a few disagreements in this forum, Nanook and I have rarely had to close a thread in this forum.

I am truly sorry that you cannot see the value of joking and having fun between a group of people with a common interest. This kind of interaction is what builds relationships, creates fun and promotes comraderie between the St. Louis Reefing Community.

FWIW, I also consider Dallas a good friend. We are good enough friends, that we can jokingly insult one another and there are no hurt feelings. Believe me, I have taken my fair share of good natured insults and it does not bother me one bit.

That said, being a Moderator of Reef Central comes before everything else. If you truly have an issue with something someone posts here on RC, click on the "Report This Post to a Moderator" button at the bottom of that post. There are a total of six Moderators for the club forums, including myself. All six of us will receive your reported post and review to see if the thread should be edited or deleted.

For the record, I have NEVER received a reported post from the SEASL forum. I have also NEVER received a complaint from the SEASL Board of Directors about the way the forum is moderated.

Feel free to use the Private Message function here on Reef Central if you would like to discuss this further in private.

Have a great weekend,

George

Sure they do!

We are a tight knit group here, at least most of us who participate regularly and have gotten to know each other. I had 16 people at my house one weekend after asking for help with my large tanks, I didn't even know 2/3 of them...just great people here. Do we get personal and joke around a lot? Sure, why not! Life is too short to take yourself so seriously, lighten up and enjoy the benefits of getting to know your neighbors here in St Louis via the WWW. It is a great way to make friends and learn a lot about reefkeeping.

As for beer consumption, I personally think that is a very important aspect of my fellow members:D

Happy Reefing!!

Dave:)
