The Official Vortec on Acrylic Thread

I have not yet decided if I want to go closed loop or MP40 on my 1/2" cast acrylic tank: 60 gals 36" x 20" x 19"

I watched the video from MACNA Pittsburgh and was extremely impresed.

Although, I have heard about the possiblilty of the heat from the driver crazing or damaging the acrylic. Has anyone personally witnessed this issue?

Plex G has a maximum recommended continuous service temperature of 180-200f, but will most likely start to crazy under cooler temps.

A properly constructed acrylic aquarium will have no problem with a VorTech pump when used properly. We have had one case in which a VorTech pump caused damage on an acrylic aquarium. There were many variables that contributed to the damage included damaged pumps and the age and construction the of aquarium. As long as your acrylic aquarium is built to manufacturer specifications, you will have no problems using VorTech pumps on acrylic aquariums.

That is good to hear. I actually work for the second largest plastics distributor in North America next to GE and will be building the tank myself.

It is brand new cast plex, .465" thick.

Everything should be to spec. Thanks for the help.

For rock work like this...would you suggest the mp40 be placed on the left wall in the open blowing toward corals or on the right wall blowing towards the open end? Tank is 36" x 20" x 19", 60 Gallons. Just looking for an opinion. I am sure it will need tweaking.

sorry sorry sorry...these are tiggsy's photos and tiggy's tank. It is soo amazing, search for the build thread.

I am just so in love with this rock layout that I am planning on copying it on my 60 I am about to put together.

I have had the MP20 on my angled tank for several months in Wave Mode. I just pulled it off the 1/4" thick acrylic wall to check for any signs of damage, and felt the area to see if it was warm. It was not and the acrylic looks just like it should: clear with a circle of crud I need to clean off.

geez, I have looked at that tank so many times and never realized that was there. Love that tank and good news about the acrylic holding up. Thanks Melev.

thanks so much. Amazing customer service and I haven't even bought product yet!

I guess we would call you a salesman then!
