The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

I left 3-4 from the walls, I wanted to be able to make sure I can squeeze my back there for what ever reason. By the way, wlecome aboard, we'll look forward to your build here!!

Ocean Mang I live in S.FL, let me know whn you decide to frag those Acans, Im am in on them for sure. I love Acans, I have like 2-3 acan frags, unfortunately they are small. Nice pics by the way everybody!!

I'm hoping to at least start setting up things this weekend. I am building a FOWLR. I have everything but the tank. It's coming in on Thursday. I will be taking pictures as I build it.

The 3-4 inch distance from the wall will help with heat dissapation as well. Good luck and have fun!

I sure will, the colors on these are so awesome!

Anthonyi: You may even wish to consider a few extra inches of space on one side (the blind side preferably) just in case you decide to do more than FOWLR down the road. Who knows what you might wish to add, and there's always too little space under a corner than you think, and need.

I didn't figure I'd need a chiller, but lo and behold...

Good luck to you.

Thanks Ocean Mang, I'll be looking forward to that!! Sweet!!

Hey guys, I just got a PM that they want to use one of the pictures of my tanks rock work for an article on aquascaping, as soon as I have more info on it, I'll post it here!!

Thats awesome, I really like your aquascape, it's sick!!!

I am so glad I have been following this thread from the beggining because I would hate to have found this thread now & have to catch up reading almost 30 pages, yikes!!!! This thread has grown!!!!

Well I just found it Bernie! It does suck! But i completely love my corner tank, and it's amazing how much there is to read here! I hope they give us our own special interest forum! That would be so awesome

Just found this corner thread. Great find! I have a 6 week old 54 corner. I currently have a koralia 2 and mj900 for flow and small penquin powerheads behind rock to reduce dead spots. Would replacing the mj900 with a koralia 4 be to much or would a 2 or 3 be better? I dont have any corals yet but would like to do a mixed reef. Any thoughts( a tunze, vortex not in budget)?

Welcome to the thread, dutchbros!

Well, that's a toughy... without seeing your setup it's really hard to determine, exactly. I have a 92g corner and I currently have 2 K4's on the front glass aiming back toward the rock. I also have my MH and modded MJ1200 setup on a timer to come on at the same time everyday. The modded MJ is toward the back aiming forward. I plan on adding two more K3's to my tank (toward the back) and getting rid of the modded MJ. I think they are "clunky" looking, and mine makes a lot of noise (although I've heard them a lot quieter on other people's tanks). Mine MJ is an older mod... not the cool looking swivel ones that they have out now.

Flow is arguably one of the hardest things to get right on our tanks. The way the tank is setup really screws with the the direction you want your flow to go in. I think the best way to get all your rocks is to have the powerheads on the front glass, aiming back toward the rock... it interrupts the main viewing area a bit, but it's been the most efficient for me so far.

But, you know what's funny? I seem to "always" move them, in one-way-shape-or-form into another position on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis. LOL! :D

Thank you for your input, flipsideleo. I definitely want to get at least a K2 to replace the mj. I have heard that the newer ecomod is a better mod but I figured for the money just get the K instead. I know what you mean about trying to get the flow right and I am trying to keep them off the front glass if I can. Maybe I will try to mount something near the back pointing forward also.

Oh, you're welcome, db! I totally know what you mean by mounting the Koralias on the front glass, too. I just did it to try it out, and it's working remarkably well for me (you should have seen all that debris it kicked-up!).

I know it's a major pain, but when you get it right you're going to realize it was worth the fight... especially if your corals are happy. :)

Oh, btw... do you have any pics of your setup? Sounds like your lighting is similar to mine (per your sig) and if that's the case, you should have no problem keeping SPS and clams under that setup.

***EDIT, EDIT!***
Wooo hooo!!! Page 32! :smokin: :bum:

Just a quick question. I'm in the process of setting up a 54 gal. Corner aquarium. What in the normal suggestion on how close to the walls do you position it? Meaning in inches.....

id suggest a minimum of 4" because thats enough room for a hang on refugium or hang on skimmer and enough room to get your hands behind it, you may never consider the hang on but its an option if you leave a decent gap:)

Esquare, where did you get your stand? What company made it? Is it all real wool?

I made it Ocean. It's real wood, 3/4" plywood frame and 3/4" skin on the front. The trim is solid wood and all of it is maple. The doors are the way they are so that they match the desk in my office.
