The right sand

I am setting up a 125G RR tank and I want to use a DSB. I have read many other post regarding DSB or not and lots of people say to use the right sand for sucess.

What size of sand is the right size? Larger grain on the bottom with fine on top? All larger grain? All fine grain?

I will be using caribsea bagged sand about 200# i think.

Thanks

My recommendation is very fine sand, my first tank i got crushed coral, and debris (poop, uneaten food, ect..) get cought between the pieces, releasing ammonia nitrites and nitrates. Also larger grain on the bottom and fine on the top might work, but i would still just go fine grain. You were saying caribsea 200#, sounds great for your size tank and a DSB.

good luck

I say small grains too. The smaller grains will have more surface area than larger grains. It stays cleaner and your tangs will eat it helping with their digestion. I had crushed coral with a yellow tang. The poor guy allways had large lumps in his belly.
