The Skimmer

looks good. the collection cup looks a bit small for a skimemr that size?? maybe its just bigger around then it is tall then it looks in the pic
 
why the drain ted? doesn't it work better the first day through 3rd or 4th day? if you let it go 2 or 3 weeks won't the gunk built up in the neck slow down production? my er's seem to work this way at least. after a week it does next to nothing.
 
I just don't want to take a chance of the cup overflowing. I do clean the cup every few days. Also if I skim a little wet there won't be a problem.
 
gotcha. I can't wait to get my tank setup so I can try my skimmer out. not sure what mods I will do but I am sure I will think of something. ;)
 
If you check my web site, the diy skimmer page has how is was made. I well not be making any more for some time. Honey do list. I do have a 0.25" x 12.5"OD x 48" cast tube for $300.00.

Rob, She knew about the skimmer from the start. Our son is getting married march 10th,so her focus is on that right now. Ted
 
I think your wife will LOVE the new skimmer. Why, you ask? Because the size of the skimmer is all about the planned upgrade to a bigger display! ... LOL

Ted, I can't wait to see your tank with the new set up. I also really want to see SteveM's tank.
 
Steve, I would take some pics,but I don't have a Digital Camera. I'm working on the supply pump right now. Should be up ,and running some time tomarrow. Ted
 
The SM skimmer is up,and running. I'll try to take some pics,after it's broken in. Words can't describe how pleased I am with this thing. Thanks to Steve this skimmer turned out great. He did a fantastic job,building it. I think I'm going to go into the waste water treatment business now. Ted
 
Just checked,I now have some very dry foam about two thirds of the way up the riser tube. This thing is kicking butt. Ted
 
Right now , I think it is going overthe riser tube,and into the cup . Rob, I thought I was going to have to let it run for a few days B4 it would do this good ,being that it is new acrylic. Ted
