ThE StArT Of My 120 BB sPs TaNk

Purple Haze what size drain is in that overflow?
Its a 2" hole but the bulk head has a 1 1/2 holr treaded. I am waiting for my durso stand pipe:eek1:
druluv How comes you didn't drill the top of the tank. You could of run the piping thru the holes into the tank.
Never crossed my mind at the time i ordered the tank. I was going to go with a scwd or a seaswirl. Then someone around here can't rember who told me to look into a OM squirt.
name of skimmer? that thing looks huge
Its a MRC MR2 and it is huge :eek2:

I had to plumb everything together and never had done that be for. All the pipes had to be the correct size and all the pies had to be cut and glued. It sure was difficult to put all that together for my first time. I guess if you have experience in doing this task it would be easier. As you can see from the pictures. many 45 deg and 90 deg elbows not to mention pipes that had to be cut to size. It was worth it in the end and would do it again.

ok so the plumbing was not user friendly....it wasn't the OM it's self.

almost every reefer will become a PVC guru. you need to know and plan out everything you do in PVC. the stuff is the best to work w/ when plumbing

you could have used vinyl hose i guess if it was that much trouble

you'll get the hang of it.

from the look of it you did a great job with the pvc.

I have a 120 from GC, the construction looks the same. for what it lacks in beauty my tank makes up for in strength. It's beefy I can't see it ever leaking. I'm sure yours will be fine as well :)

looks like it going to be a great set-up.

Here is a shot of my OM-Sqirt on my new 120g.....filled it last night and man i love that thing.....nice and gradual on the flow!

Hockeydad,
oceanmotions is the place.......what is it? a switching device that is magnetically driven. It has ports that open and close by a turning device inside the unit. This is my first one, so long term...i do not know.

Ok I have just received my DURSO STAND PIPE and I was looking to find out what size hole should I start with? It is larger than I had thought 1 Ã"šÃ‚½ is a bit large for my overflow so it will have to go on an angle. Has anyone here used this type of set up?

It looks great I am going to have to get some of that fancy flexible PVC when I do my skimmer.

Hockeydad I am interested in the OM Squirt.

Here is the link please do not turn this tread into a OM squirt thread.

This tank is well built and it sure is heavy  I have started to remove the black trim around the top and bottom and the silicon that I had to take off with the razor is way too much. How in the world do they stay in business? My tank has Ã"šÃ‚½ glass all the way around and a Ã"šÃ‚¾ bottom now if I could only figure out what 1 square foot of glass weighs I could sleep better a night 

Ya I hope to get better at it as I need to plumb the skimmer the overflow and the sump.

If that's a 1.5" male fitting at the bottom of the standpipe, as you've indicated, then you need a 1.5" threaded bulkhead fitting in the hole at the bottom of the overflow box. Since bulkhead fittings are not standard, no one can tell you what size hole you need at the bottom of the overflow box. My guess would be approximately 2 3/8" in diameter, but you have to obtain the bulkhead fitting first.

Since the hole is pre-drilled, you may not have many options. It doesn't appear to be large enough to accommodate a 1.5" bulkhead fitting and it's very tricky to widen an existing hole in glass, and then there's the question of whether it's tempered...

I'd suggest that you contact the manufacturer and ask them what diameter bulkhead was meant for that overflow box. They may have one that fits that hole.

Might want to consider adding unions to that plumbing setup; otherwise it will be difficult to remove the Squirt for maintenance and/or repair.

BTW, that's a very small overflow box with very small slits. I hope you're not planning on passing much water through the tank.

I also don't see a hole at the top of the Durso standpipe or a screened inlet. IMO, both of these are required for best operation. Where did you get that thing? You probably are going to have to get one made from 1" pipe and fittings to work in that box and with that hole.

Hey Greg thanks for all the input. I had posted what size hole I would need for the durso pipe but did not get any responses. I never thought about a screen for it so I will have to make one. Should I start with a 1/16th hole and work my way up? I picked it up on line here http://cart.dursostandpipes.com/comersus/store/comersus_index.asp

Should I add more teeth or should I widen them? The overflow box is rated with a 1 Ã"šÃ‚½ bulk head to pass around 1500 gallons. The box itself measures 5 3/4 by 6 inches.

Greg by all means please chim in as often as you like. In put from you is more than welcome.:D :) :p

Thanks for all the input but I was talking about the durso pipe cap. There is a cap on top that I need to drill a hole in and could not find out what size hole to start with. Look at the pictures the hole is already drilled out  I have also picked up the bulk head from the maker.

Ok here is a look at my star board that I got today. First off it was way too big for my tank bottom. So I had to trim it down some and after careful thought I decided to make a template out of cardboard and then transfer that to the actual starboard. Here are the steps I took for this job.
Here is the sheet.
This is the box it came in. It sure came in handy.

The cut was made to the cardboard many times before I got it right.
