The T5 Q&a Thread - split

will a 36" 4x t5 ho fixture be enough for sps in a 40g breeder? its going to be a QT tank to treat AEFW >.<

Hello, I am new to reef keeping and well technically have not started yet. Anyways I have a 29 gallon tank( I believe it is not the standard), I just set it up with a reef octopus Bh 1000 , one 550 power head, and for lighting I have a new Deep Blue Solarmax HO double t5 lighting system 2 24w one 10k daylight and one actinic 03. Anyways after a lot of reading I am not so sure I have enough light for corals. Basically is this enough light for softies? And also since I can get these for about 100 bucks , if someone suggest I get a 4 bulb fixture would it be okay to just buy another one of these puppies? There is room if I squeeze, would 2 different systems be enough light? Or is if you could link some decently priced options. I really want to make my rock and corals pop with color. Thanks everyone and I look forward to your responses. P.s the rock gets here on thursday.

Hi Everyone,

I will read this entire thread, but at the moment I am in a hurry to make a decision. I am writing from Bangkok Thailand. Coming from Europe (Ireland) I am unfamiliar with the brands on offer here and was hoping that someone could help me by evaluating the following:

1. Dymax Hi-5 Lighting 1500 (60 inc) with 4xT5HO 80w 10000k & Blue.

2. Hopar T5HO-4 T5-1500 (60 inc) with 4xT5HO 80w 7200k.

3. Weipro Lighting T5HO LC-150 (1500mm) with T5HO 4x80w.

If anyone is familiar with these brands / products, your feedback would be great.

Thanks,

I need the T5 experts' help. I'm having a 195 custom (72x26x24) tank built that will be 80-90% SPS. I'm a halide guy, and would like to cut some electrical costs if possible by going to T5.

I was wondering if a 60" ATI Powermodule would be enough light for this tank's footprint, and also if I could get away with an 8 bulb fixture instead of 10.

Thanks in advance...and if possible please let me know which bulb combination.

two units WITH GOOD LAMPS would work. Replace the stock 03 lamps with ATI Blue Plus and one of the 10K lamps with a Purple Plus.

8x80 would be fine. 5 ATI Blue Plus, 2 ATI Purple Plus and a GE 6500K Daylight for lamps.

Hello Grim,

I just purchased an ATI Sunpower. I have the Cadlights artisan cube and would like to know the best bulb combination for my needs. I care for mainly SPS and want high par with a crisp 20k. I like a blueish/ white color but not Windexy. I already have great SPS growth but now want to make my colors pop.

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy

What Bulb Combo would you recommend for a 10 bulb ATI with 50/50 White and Blue Reefbrite LED strip? I want to keep SPS/LPS/Clams. What would the placement be aswell?

From the front to the back

1. ATI Blue Plus
2. Ati Purple Plus
3. ATI Blue Plus
4. GE 6,500K or New Generation
5. ATI Blue Plus
6. ATI Blue Plus
7. GE 6,500K or New Generation
8. ATI Blue Plus
9. ATI Blue Plus
10. ATI Purple Plus

Normaly I do not push the GE bulb but with the number of Blue Plus bulbs you have room for the blues will counter any yellow hues you get from the GE bulbs.

4 ATI Blue Plus 1 Purple Plus and a GE 6500K Daylight

Quick question really,

Currently we are running an 8x54W ATI powermodule with 4 ATI blue plus, 3 ATI aquablue specials and 1x KZ fiji purple.

We have been hearing a lot of good reviews here in the UK about the narva blues, however how do these compare to the ATI Blue plus PAR wise? Do they give more pop like a cree royal blue LEDs, or are they similar colour wise?

The difference in price between the ATI and the Narva is about $7, and I dont mind spending the extra, Im more interested in PAR, as I have heard from various people that the PAR is better on the Narva blues, but seem to have little evidence to back it up.

Hope you can help

h Narva lamps is with Giesemann lamps which are made by them and the PAR is a little less, I would never pay extra for them. The Narva brand units might be different but they might not either.

Opps I meant the ATI was more expensive than the narva blues.

So if it came down to it, money no object which would you recommend for more PAR out of the ATI blue plus and the Narva blue?

Thanks for the reply (also do you have a tank thread/ information on your LED lighting? as we are interested in LED units ourselves, having made a couple ourselves)

Try this on your upgrade of the 48" bulbs
Front
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aqua Blue Special or GE 6,500 05 ZK New Generation
ATI Blue Plus
ATI or Fuji Purple Plus
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus

For the 24" Fixture
Front ATI Blue Plus
Rear ATI True Atinic.

With this set up you can run the 24" fixture an hour before and after any of the other bulbs come on. Will give you an interesting florescence effect.
Then have your dawn to dusk lights with a Blue and a Purple come on for an hour before and after your mid day bulbs that are basically everything else.

You might have to move the order around to get them to come in the right sequence for your timers, but you should like the overall effect.

I installed above mix today (4 Blue+, Purple+, Aqua+ in 48" and Blue+, Atinic in 24") and resulted in BLUE tank overall but no real POP either. Removing the 6500 I had prior, took a lot of "light/brite" out of tank that's for sure. Not sure if corals/rose will respond - guess par is better but to my human eye is is far less brite in the tank.

Any suggestions for adds anyone?

This is why I like to leace people with option between the 6,500K, Aqua Blue Special, and the New Generation. Each produces a little different effect and some like one whole others like a different combo.

The GE 6,500 K will brighten things up considerably. but unless you have a lot of blue light with it it will show a noticable yellow caste. The New Generation will not give the yellow caste but will not quite as bright as the GE. Then the Aquablue special fills in the greens nicely and some people that are divers claim it makes a more natural looking effect but others claim it takes out some of the snap. Personal preference is the big thing between these combinations.
