The T5 Q&a Thread - split

I appreciate the suggestion. I figured i was more bored than anything, and nothing good in this hobby comes out of boredom...

so i just kept it the same. I'm also adding a second blue reefbrite soon so figured that would be plenty of blue...

I think there's a lot of benefits to actinics actually.

So I'm thinking about switching out my Radions to an ATI 36" 8x39 Dimmable, hopefully picked up in the BF sales...so I have some questions.

I know I will miss the "pop" from my Radions, so I'm planning to integrate a EuroQuatics LED Blue Pop bulb. I know many people use Reefbrite supplements, but I'm hoping to save some money, extra cords, etc. with the BP bulb.

Anyways...I have 3 options of bulb placement I'm thinking about and looking for suggestions. I am planning to put the BP and one B+ on channel 2 for Dawn/Dusk dimming and the rest on channel 1. I prefer a fairly white look with a little blue. But the two most important reasons for this switch are 1, faster growth and 2, better colors for all my corals, red, green, blue, orange, yellow, purple, etc. So let me know what you guys suggest, I am leaning towards option #2:

Option 1 (Front -> Back) - I read to put the P+ forward of the corals to pick up the reds and purples, maybe too far forward?

P+, C+, BP, B+, B+, B+, C+, B+

Option 2 - Seems the most evenly spaced to me.

B+, C+, BP, P+, B+, B+, C+, B+

Option 3 - Too much C+?

C+, P+, BP, B+, C+, B+, C+, B+

I don't mean to be lazy not using the search function but how many people have tried the EuroQuatics E5 bulbs and how did you like them? How do they actually compare color/par/power wise? It shouldn't matter but I'd be most interested in the 60" models.

TIA

Question, if I decide to go to T5, how many bulbs should I want? My tank is 48/48/24. HOWEVER, it is acrylic and the opening on the top is 38/33 and 95% of my rock is in that footprint. Will be SPS heavy.

Getting ready to order bulbs for my 6x80 ATI. Been running:

Front
B+
B+
C+
C+
B+
B+

Good results, but the look seems to be missing something, seems a little flat or washed out under full lights. Since I am only running 6 bulbs, I probably don't want to go with an Actinic b/c I don't want to take the PAR hit.

Thinking...
3x B+
2x C+
1x P+

Thoughts?

I like a 20,000K-ish look.

There's roughly a 50 point difference between Blue Plus and an ATI Actinic bulb so not that big of a deal IMO.

3 blue plus, 1 coral plus, 1 actinic and 1 purple plus

The actinic is also not a useless bulb. Nearly 100% of its energy is in the PUR range. So is the blue+, and while it does have a wider spectrum it's not as filled out in the lower wavelengths. The actinic has 100% of its energy in the violet range which most other bulbs have SOME of but not quite that amount. I definitely like having one or two in the mix depending on how many bulbs you keep.

I thought the actinic would be a bigger hit to PAR.

Better to go 2xB+, 2xC+, 2xActinic or 3xB+, 2xC+, 1xP+, 1xActinic?

Hi. Could you help me?
I get my sunpower 6x54 dimm, and i don't understand how works active cooling system.
For example, I set Solltemp as 40C. I think, when temperature higher then 40C, then fans must increase speed, but they don't do it.
Funs don't decrease speed when temperature lower then 40C
Funs don't turn off in the night (when 1, 2 channel is off).
Its normal?
P.S. sory for my bad english=)

Move the Fiji Purple closer to the front so the pink hits the viewing side of the corals more. Maybe in slot 4 or 5

This may have been addressed previously but I am running two 8 bulb dimmable 48 inch ati fixtures and the temp routinely sits at around 48 Celcius. One fixture auto dims to 91% to keep below 50 (or whatever their cutoff is). They have auto speed on fans. Anyone have any tips? They aren't enclosed, room isn't 85 degrees, basically a pretty standard setup. I'm running them at 100%. How can I cool them down to the recommended 35c?

Bringing this back as the problem as gotten worse, it used to run at 43-45 and now has increased and auto dims. I contacted ATI and they basically told me to be sure the wires are pointing the right way. Otherwise no help. Has anyone found better (more powerful) fans? I am considering adding a larger fan set (80mm with an adaptor to 60mm) to push more air. Basically i'll do anything to keep them cooled properly cuz 16 bulbs per time "aint no joke" on my reefing wallet. Any tips are appreciated.

Bulb layout critique. This is a 8 bulb 60" fixture on a 6 ft. tank. Have the bulbs purchased already, just deciding on a layout. What do you think?

For giesemann aurora, what 4 bulb combo??

What K would 3 blue + and 1 purple + produce? Close to 18k?

How about 2 blue +, 1 coral + and 1 purple +?
