And with that folks I am done, Number One, you have the helm :D

After a week of giving the same answer to the same question dozens of times while fighting a 100+ fever at times I've decided I need to step away for a while and let some of you other T5 freaks take up the slack. I'll dip my toe in the water or jump in to answer interesting questions but 5 years of answering the same routine questions over and over again I'm burnt out.

Have fun Ya'll

Thanks for answering all my questions, It was an honor to be the last one. LOL

I haven't been on this thread very long but I'm glad I got here in time for your help. I noticed how many times you answered the same questions and thank you for answering mine (along with some other good suggestions from others)

I have a suggestion for this thread and that is to create a sticky for it that lists the fixtures available and pluses and minuses of them. Also a bulb reccomendation for if you want a whiter look or a bluer look. With a brief explanation of why the certain bulbs are reccomended. I think people keep asking because they don't know. It would be easy at that point for each of us to point the newbies to the sticky note (politely of course!) I don't have the info to do it myself nor do I know how to or who can create sticky notes. It is just a suggestion.

Thanks again Grim for all the time you chose to put in to a topic you must love. I'm srue the thread will miss you.:sad1:

Now to why I came to the thread today. WOW! After getting the Nova up on the 125 I made the switch yesterday and moved all the liverock and coral from my 75 over and took out all my non reefsafe fish from the 125. WOW again. Not only did the corals change color a little the live rock changed a ton! It was almost all purple in the 75 under the Phoenix 14k MH and the VHO (uri super actinic and uri 75/25). It was a couple of different shades of purple but mainly purple. Now under the T5s it has turned Dark Purple, Light Purple, Red, Bright Red and Pink. They are soo cool looking now. I'm amazed.

Here is my T5 list again
ATI Blue Plus
Actinic White
Current Actinic Blue
Current 10k
ATI Blue Plus
Current Actinic Blue

I'm expecting my Fiji Purple to come in today and I'm going to try replacing the current 10k with it.

What, no pictures?

Research "color rendering" to see why you are seeing the new colors. Blue is nice but you have to mix in red and green too if you want to see a broad band of color.

* I didn't answer a question :fun4::rollface::fun4:

I'll try to take some soon. Funny you didn't answer a question but asked one. It's topsy turvey day on ReefCentral!

Here is your question then: Research color rendering where? Here on RC or elsewhere?

Diablo, 8 54 watt lamps is plenty if you have good equipment

hey, im working on setting up lighting for a standard 55 gallon.

i have a 4x54W T5HO setup ill be putting together. bulb 1 and 3 will be on one ballast and bulb 2 and 4 will be on another ballast.

looking for a setup that will allow me to run one ballast morning and evening, and both during the day with leds at night.

im not sure of the terms, but i want the corals to look vibrant, and really glow/fluoresce.

i am thinking of keeping LPS (brain, candy cane), ric's and zoa's. possibly SPS in the future.

any recommendations on lighting/bulbs?

also, i know its not T5, but i have a 2x65W (24" Current Orbit PC) that i was looking to put on a 10 gallon. it will either be BTA and clown, or fish with possibly one or two LPS. any recommendations?

Grim can't stay away!!!! It's like a drug, hahahaah.

Grim in your time off buddy, it would be phenomenal if you found one of those sfiligoi stealth's! I just got offered a great deal on one, and it's ever so tempting to jump on it... but even with the good deal it's not cheap enough for me to jump on just for kicks =). Either way i'll probably get one in the coming months, i find it very hard to believe that it wouldn't perform just as well as the top of the line fixtures now that it's addressed the active cooling issue.. plus Aquatics Elite seems to be backing them pretty good with customer service here in the US.

Grim,

Just curious...have you done you done any tests on the Fauna Marin Royal Blue bulbs (preferably 54w)? If so, how are they comparable to ATI B+ in terms of PAR, intensity, availability and of course...cost?

From what I hear, they are approx. 25% brighter than ATI B+ (which I know does not necessarily mean more PAR)! Please Chime in!

25% brighter :lolspin: Yeah, OK.

Don't hold your breath waiting for any company to publish PAR results. I don't even know if those lamps are in the US yet.

Have a Tek T5 24" 4x24W fixture. (Tank width is 12") Can you make some bulb recommendations for keeping SPS / Clams? Also would you recommend a specific bulb order front to back on this setup ?

Uhhhh, try Michigan to be exact ...the Source is CherryCorals who is on the Sponsor Forums here on RC. They seem to have a shipment of all wattages coming in!

i like cherry corals.. but they are one of the few Fauna Marin product line suppliers out there.. so take them backing fauna marin products with a grain of salt..

Grim should start a $1 PayPal donation per question. Then, at least he'd get something out of answering the same questions over and over! It's totally worth it because 225 pages of thread are pretty daunting to search through!

I have these bulbs available to use, but only room for 8. Which 8 should I choose, and in what order?
4 ATI Blue+
1 UVL Indigo Sun
2 Current USA 460nm Actinic Blue
and
2 Current USA Daylight 10,000K SlimPaq high output T5 lamps

I would dump one of the Current Blues.
