The T5 Q&a Thread

Hey Grim, I have a standard 90g tank, 48x18x24. I'm planning on buying a powermodule and I don't know if the six bulb would be enough to keep all kinds of SPS even on the bottom.
I curently have two 250w MH and 4 actinic plus t5's. Thanks!

My tank is 12" tall. The tank will be a mushroom only tank. I have no intention of keeping a clam in the short term but I can't rule out the possibility sometime down the road. Would 4x24w T5 be sufficient for a crocea or maxima? I would probably go with the following bulb configuration:

- ATI Sun Pro
- ATI Aquablue or Blue Plus
- ATI Blue Plus
- UVL Super Actinic

I don't really have to put the clam at the bottom, but I don't want them to just barely make it with the lighting either

Thanks. :)

assuming the fixture is 24", if the tank length is longer than 24" put the clam under the fixture and not to the side. Basically directly under the light and it should be fine.

Yes, the tank dimension is 24"x18"x12".

It would likely fit a 6 tubes fixture as well, but I'd like to keep the fixture as small as possible in order to have the open top look. And the lower cost doesn't hurt too.

KZ Fiji Purple

That will be a nice blue but your colors will POP. I don't think ATI even makes the Sun Pro anymore.

The 6 bulb Powermodule will be plenty for that tank.

I realise that I might have trouble finding UVL stuffs locally (seen it, but can't remember where). What do you suggest I replace it with? Another ATI Blue Plus? Or the Giesemann Pure Actinic?

The Fiji Purple is available kinda pricey too. Hmmm...

Does AquaZ tubes' PAR last as long as the German tubes? The OceanPro's PAR appears to compare very well to that of the ATI Aquablue Special, at about less than half the price locally.

The Gmann Pure Actinic will work too.

With a 4 bulb setup you really want to use the Kz Fiji Purple.

I have never even heard of the other brands you listed. I haven't seen any PAR readings for them either and I doubt a no name keeps up with the ATI Aquablue. I would like to see a link if you have one though.

Grim tested the AquaZ.

I think they are Chinese and they are cheap in LFS here. I have used one for a year or two, I don't have a PAR meter but it is still alive.

Btw, is the Fiji Purple a purple version of the Blue Plus type tube? Bright yet still intensely coloured? Or is it just white tubes with a hint of purple?

The Fiji Purple is a pink/purple bulb with a lot of PAR. It accents the pinks reds and purples nicely.

On my 4 bulb setup I use

ATI Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
GE6500K
ATI Blue Plus

It is definitely a 12k look and I hate it. I am switching out the GE for an Aquablue and that will put me up to a 15k look.

yea those 6500k's are a color killer. but they have good par at a cheap price.
