jeez I posted them wrong bulb configuration.

this is what I meant (sorry)
(front)
blue plus
blue plus
aqua blue
fiji purple
blue plus
blue plus
(back)

so you say this:
(front)
blue plus
fiji purple
blue plus
aqua blue
fiji purple
blue plus
blue plus
aqua blue
(back)

Or are two fiji purple's too much?

No, should be fine

I am thinking about placing an ATI 6x24w powermodule over a 34 gallon aquarium that has a height of 24 inches. I want to be able to keep some clams on the sand bed, some sps, but mostly lps at any depth in the tank. Would this lighting be overkill? If not what bulb combination would you suggest and height from water surface.

The clams would love it but the LPS aren't gonna like it. I have to shade my LPS in my tank or have it on the very edges. All of my LPS are on the bottom of my tank. My tank is 16" tall with a 1" sandbed. Light is about 7-8" off the water surface.

I fear you would totally fry all of your LPS not on the bottom of the tank. I would be looking at the Tek fixtures myself.

Grim reefer, your site has been an incredible help,

Need some advice on my 39w setup, so currently I run Front to back

Giessman pure actinic a
KZ Fiji Purple b
Current bluea replace with actinic plus
Current whiteb replace with aqua blue

So A comes on first then B, i was thinking of changing my current blue to a giessman
actinic plus and hte white to a giessman aqua blue.

I have mostly acans and my tank is 20l with the fixture mounted 20" above the sand, i really like that blue look and currenty dislike how its really white during the daylight. I also plan on keeping some sps eventually high in the tank.

Thanks for all the info.

Hi Grim, I have a 6X54 Tek light for my standard 75gal tank. I keep about 80% SPS on the top half of the tank and about 20% LPS/softies on the side/bottom. I want to replace my bulbs, and was wondering what would be the best combo suggestion from front to back for this light. thanks

Sounds like a good plan. I would maybe try an Actinic Plus in place of the pure actinic as well if you want SPS.

New Bulbs..

It is time for me to change my bulbs(ATI Powermodule 10x54W) out and wanted some opinions.

Currently I am running(front to back)

-AB Special
-Blue+
-Blue+
-Fiji Purple
-Blue+
-Blue+
-Blue+
-Blue+
-Fiji
-Blue+

I like the color, but, wnot sure I am getting the color from my corals that I think I can. Purples are drab, but obviously pinks are very good(2 Fijis). Blues are ehh. Oranges and greens are pretty good, too.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

You could try a GE 6500K Daylight somewhere around the middle and see what you think.

bulb recommendation for 72x30x30

bulb recommendation for 72x30x30

Hi Grim Reefer,

I am about to set up a 72x30x30 tank. I have a 12x54 Sfiligoi stealth fixture. Wondering if you could provide some advice on bulb combination. I have a mixture of SPS and softies. I currently have 6 Actinic blue and 6 blue plus bulbs. I figure I should probably throw some other bulbs on there and save the redundant bulbs for replacements. What would you suggest?

Thanks,

Thirst

I would add 2 KZ Fiji purple and 2 ATI Aquablues in place of 4 Actinic Blue

Since I have these 4 Actinic Blues, what do you think about switching out 3, using 2 KZ Fiji purple and 1 ATI Aquablue? This way I will eventually use up the 4 Actinic blues, otherwise theywill just sit idle...

Is there a document somewhere that highlights the property of the bulbs anywhere? Are the Actinic blues too blue? Or what is wrong with the actinic blues?

Thanks!

Edit: I obviously can't read. I now remember i have 6 actinic blues.. so 2 fiji, 2 aquablue and 2 actinic! how should i place them? just alternate? I am reading your website so trying to learn as much as I can and not be annoying and ask the same questions.

Any thoughts on Sfiligoi fixtures?

The Actinics are violet, not blue and provide little growth. Leaving one in is fine, use it in one of the dusk/dawn slots.

Do you have any direct or indirect experience with Sfiligoi T5 fixtures? The cooling doesn't blow down on the ends of the bulb like the ATI does, instead if has fans blowing across the bulb. Do you think this is effective in cooling the bulb?

Also, since the Sfiligoi is only 20" wide, if i place it without much clearance from the water, will the light spread where by the time it hits the bottom of the tank, it will cover 30" tank relatively well? same goes for the 48 length versus the 65" or so of actual tank length (72 - overflow)

Have a mini stealth 6x54 and it's a piece of crap.

As long as the lamp ends are being cooled and not the centers I will assume the cooling is OK.

1st time in a LONG time posting!

Setup: 46G Bowfront
8 x 39W t-5's.
I have 15% SPS, 15% Softies, 70% LPS.

I would like the bluest spectrum possible with the most juice. The BEST of the BEST only for my SPS and my scolys ;o)

Your help would be very much Appreciated!

Thank You!
