can anyone tell me...What is the difference, if any, between the KZ Fiji Purple and the ATI Purple Plus?

The KZ figi purple was out first and cost more. The purple plus was made to compete with it and cost less. They are made at same factory to supposedly slightly different specs. I chose the figi purple as I am a fan of kz products. But from what I hear its hard if not impossible to tell the difference.

Ok so I have an Ati sunpower 6x54 over a STD 75, and I will be picking up a 150 48x24x30 high. Will my Ati be enough for mainly softies and maybe a few sps up top? Should I go to an eight bulb Sunpower or do I need MHs,which I really don't want. I'll have a 6" sandbed for a lg jawfish

I spect you'd be happier with 8 lamps but 6 will work as long as the SPS are below them.

I just bought a 4x 54 watt aquatic life fixture with built in timers to use on my 150 gal 5x2x2 just for now due to an unfortunate mishap at the casino last night, I won 800$!, but.... Gave em back 3. Any who, obviously it's a 4' fixture on a 5' tank with only 4 bulbs so my questions are...

1. Since tank is wide enough, I have room for a duplicate fixture. Yah or nah? I wanna grow sps.

2. I have a 15" canopy that they will be housed in, the aquatic life fixtures have fans built in, very nice fixture IMHO, is this ok?

3. Should I stagger the 2 fixtures to minimize the 6" gap on the ends of tank, even though I can't see a shadow effect even with only 1 fixture! This thing is very bright.

4. Last question... They have splash guards on the fixture so can I mount them say... As low as 2" above water surface? The reason I ask is cause it's resting on the 1/2 " glass brace on the tank now( jus until my canopy gets a re staining) and there is absolutely no raise in tank temp.

Hey Grim and Guys,

I am setting up a 75 gallon (48x18x21) that will be predominately SPS with clams on the sand, and I am currently looking at the TEK 6x54 or 8x54. Which would you guys recommend and what bulb combination? Thanks in advance.

I'd either go T5 or LED unless you want to build your own Hybrid.

Thanks in advance for the replies...

The lightable floor space is about 14" deep and 48" wide. The aquarium is 30" tall. I currently have (6) T5 and (16) RB LEDs w/o optics on the tank. The color and actinic pop is there, but not the growth. I want to add (24) LEDs in the form of an online DIY LED kit.

Should I go with all white and use my T5 as actinic/fiji purple only, or should I keep my current set up as is and do a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of RB to whites? Also, any idea on the optics for the DIY? Iwas thinking the 60 degree

If you are serious about SPS, Aquatic Life won't cut it on a 2 foot tall tank. I would keep all SPS on the rocks and at least half way up. LPS and softies will be fine down low.

Changing they bulbs will also help out quite a bit to get you more light. The Aquatic Life bulbs are lower end.

The 8 bulb will be too big for the tank.

The 6 bulb will allow SPS and clams but I wouldn't cram the tank with them. An ATI Sunpower would be my choice if you are going all SPS and clams.

The 6 bulb Tek is a good choice though. Don't run an acrylic shield and get an external fan to help cool things down.

Got my new T5's

Got my new T5's

I've seen Grim recommend this combo in several posts using 4 lamps:

"Use 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and 1 ATI Purple Plus. Use the blue blue for dusk/dawn. These lamps are high PAR..."

If you are losing coral, we need to look at water parameters and test kits as well.

I got new T-5's and attached pictures. I thought the lights would be too blue, but they aren't. Blueplus runs 8 hours/day and aquablue/purple run an additional 45minutes before and after the 8 hours.

I presently don't use a shield, it just never really fit right so I never used it. I also don't use the cooling fan, but after reading a few posts, maybe I should, but am wondering if I need to since there is no shield.
I am planning on getting a couple of new corals, want some color, hardy types, any suggestions on ones that will thrive with the lights???
Thanks for the input from everyone.

Go with XPG cool white LED's and use the T5's for blue and purple.

A couple things. It looks like you have a Current USA Nova Extreme. I have this fixture as well. I would absolutely run the shield and the cooling fan.

Also, that's almost the same bulb combination that I use. You can grow SPS nicely with those bulbs. Keep your water clean to allow maximum light transmission.

I don't understand a whole lot about lighting yet since all my other tanks have been shallow. What do you suggest as my best option for additional lighting? Bulbs and wattage?

Hey grim. Don't want to post a ton of questions that have already been answered, jus need a lil advise from the guru. Thanks G.
