I find im not getting the flourecence or "pop" i would like in the daytime. Can you suggest anything?

edit; i think the midday may be washing it out?

Dump at least one of the Aquablue Plus for an Actinic Plus which is the Blue Lamp.

Ok, so after more research I have discovered ATI powermodules and Sunpower Fixtures that everyone raves about.. Now as far as I can tell the only differences are the ATI powermodule has a better cooling system? Also do they both simulate dawn/dusk? My tank dimensions are 57g 36"L X 18"W X 21"H, would the 36" 4 X 39w ATI PM be sufficient? Or shall I go with the 36" 6 X 39w Sunpower? By the way im a broke college student lol.

90 bowfront T5 help needed.

90 bowfront T5 help needed.

Grim, 2 month old 90 gal bowfront softy tank with 48" 6 bulb T5. Came w/3 10K and 3 blue actinics.

As bulbs were included, and they are not great. Lots of yellow. Can you please suggest brand/bulbs to replace with. Switching is 2-on & 4-on. Running 2 blues 10 hours and 3 10K +1 blue 8 hours.

As tank would only allow 6 bulb with bow, planning on adding 24" 2 bulb to front of tank. Please advise 24" blubs as well.

Thanks in advance, and love the deer butt!

Could anyone give me an idea of the widest tank front to back I could light with the 10x80w ATI Powermodule? I plan to go with 72" of length, but then again, I won't be keeping anything within 6" of the sides.

However, I would like to be able to grow corals all the way against the back wall of the tank. Anyways... I guess the question I'm asking is. Can I grow SPS corals that aren't directly under the fixture? Or does the PAR drop off to severely?

I'm not super handy so having to build a retrofit would be problematic for me in all likelihood.

what difference is the 75/25 and the fiji purple in that 2 spot?

Fiji is a little more of a mellow lamp when it comes to the purple color. The 75/25 is more of a neutral color when you look at the lamp it's self but looks to have a little more red when you see it over a tank.

6x39 watt Sunpower would be my choice. 6 lamps is better over a 18" deep tank. Either have enough punch for a 21 inch tall tank.

Tweak the positions around to get a good dusk/dawn pair if you need to.

If you keep the SPS not directly below the lamps up on the rocks they will be fine. I would say for a all out SPS monster 24 inches easy and probably 28 to 30 would be OK.

Thanks a lot Grim, so if I wanted 36" I'd definitely be looking at a retro kit? If say the first 6-8 inches from the front pane there wasn't anything but from there to the back I wanted full growth?

What I'd really like is 36" width, 30" depth. I just don't know if I can build a retro that can put out the par at 30" depth that the Powermodule can.

for 36" you could use 2 6 lamp Sunpowers and be good. Otherwise a retro with Aqua Illumination or ATI reflectors and Ice Cap 660 ballasts.

You are correct. The difference between the two is the cooling. The Powermodule has more fans. Also, the fixutre loks difference. The sunpower has bent/squared off edges in the front and back; the powermodule is more rounded.

There is not really a true dusk/dawn effect. However, you can turn on 2 bulbs for dawn then turn on the rest of daytime. You can do that with either model. For true dusk to dawn you would need a dimmable unit. They are not currently available in the US. Supposedly dimmable powermodules are coming next spring.

Hello. Looking for a good bulb combo to really bring out my corals for a 8 x 54w ati p/m. Tank is 24inch deep. Mostly lps with a few sps at the top. Trying to stick with just ati bulbs if I can. And here in the uk we can still get the pro colour if that helps. Thanks grim.

Hey thanks for the great info here;

Couple of quick q's:

Which would you recommend:

48" Icecap Pre-Wired T5 Retro kit w/660 Ballast
OR:
48" 4x54W Miro-4 T5 High-Output Retrofit Kit w/ Bulbs (uses

This is being fitted in a Canopy on a 72G bowfront - hopefully I'll be able to keep some decent coral plus possibly a Clam eventually?

I have about $400 to spend - would you recommend some other lighting system instead?

Thanks in advance!

Hello again T5 experts, checking in with another round of questions:

I have two 24" wide, 10" (water depth) deep, 48" long tanks. I am going to use T5's to light them, and im looking to propagate soft corals only for the first year or so until the system matures a bit. For this reason i would like a little expandability in the future, but for the time being i beleive 4 T5's would be plenty spaced evenly over the 24" width.

My questions:

1) How far should i mount them over the water's surface? I know 2-4" is best, but what is a maximum height i should stay within?

2) What is a good way to build in some room for an extra bulb or two (for down the road, in case i get into sps) while still covering the entire 24" width now?

3) What are good reflectors for shallow tanks like these? Could i bend (widen) the reflectors to get a broader spread...or will this negatively impact the performance of the light?

TIA
