The T5 Q&a Thread

If you're okay with it, that's all that matters.

In this case you could try staggering the bulbs a bit. Like stagger the bulbs out to 60" if that makes sense. Don't go all the way to 72" or you will lose a ton of light in the middle.

Sounds good, thanks!

What bulbs are you running again? What are your fans set at? How old are the bulbs and have they been properly cooled the whole time?

Yes, the apogee meters under read the blues and over read reds.

Bulbs are 2 weeks old and I just switched the bulbs around today, with the ati logo facing the cord end? Fans were set at 5v. You think I'm okay at 6" above the surface, even with sps?

OK...I'll add to the insane length of this thread....

I recently set up an Oceanic 57 Gallon rimless (36" X 18" X 21")

I currently have a Wavepoint 156 Watt fixture with stock bulbs over it. What "should" I have over it? Right now I'm keeping this tank simple...no SPS, no clams. Mostly Zoas, rics, etc...but I always end up with SPS on all my tanks...What can I say, I'm a junky :rolleye1:

I was looking at the 6 bulb Coralview T5/LED fixture. It's only $300...but I know you get what you pay for...but maybe it's still legit. With 4 cords and 6bulbs, with LEDs, it sounds promising with regards to customization.

Or...maybe I should stick with what I've got with different bulbs? I personally don't think the color is that bad...but it's driving me nuts that I have no moonlights, or at least two plugs to step the lighting on/off.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Ryan, I recently set up a 48x36x20 high sps tank that I have a 8 bulb sunpower with
4 blue +
2 purple+
2 aquablue special
This is my first time exclusively using t5s and was wondering what the best distance bulb to water would be. Remember the tank is 20"
Thanks for any advice!

Set your fans at 7.5 at a bare minimum and 9 volts if you want the best life out of the lamps

Unless you are going with quality I'd modify what you have now. Good lamps will give you the colors and there are options out there for adding moonlights.

You'd probably be fine with the unit as high as 8 inches above the tank.

looking for a good combo for my current 6' 12 bulb fixture, looking into a mostly ATI 6 bulb combo. would you add a fiji purple or use the purple+? is there that noticable of a difference? From the front, bulbs 1&5 are teh dusk/dawn lights. thanks in advance for any help. my tank is in desperate need of new lights. depending on response, might be ordering tomorrow.....

Ive been running Grims bulb combinations for the past few years in my Nova Pro and love it. Its time to order again and Ive seen you replaced the Actinic White bulb for the Fiji or the Purple Plus so im gonna try the Purple plus. My question is about the GE bulb. I was planning on ordering from bulk reef supply since I need to restock alot of goods and they dont carry the GE 6500k. I was going to order the Giesemann Midday in its place since it was listed on your site but they will not have them in anytime soon. Would the UVL Aquasun be a good replacement? Like I said I REALLY like way its looked for the past few years and would like it to stay about the same (look/PAR). What do you think? Should I just split orders and stay with reef geek and forgo the free shipping by combining orders?

Current combo -

So I'm guessing CoralVue isn't getting the GR endorsement?

If I go with 4 new lamps...what 4 do you recommend? It came with wavepoint bulbs...which I thought had a good rep.

If I go quality...what should it be? What lamps?

Thanks for taking the time.
