OK, can you elaborate why? Price is a concern, these are very reasonable but I haven't shopped around to see other brands. As this is in my sump and a frag tank i'm not concerned with look or anything, just that it functions. I'd buy a cheap used fixture so long as its funcationable. Thanks!
 
In a 6 bulb Tek I was going to go with 4x ATI Blue+, 1x Purple+, and 1x AquaBlue Special

However, I could possibly get some Giesemanns a little cheaper, are they a good alternative, if so, what combo would I want that would be similar to the one I just mentioned?

I have recently started over. I have a 2x2x4 Oceanic with 8 48" DIY T5s from Reefgeek. Can you help me select new bulbs? I'd like to keep a variety of coral types. I want a nice blueish tint. What is a nice combo? I'm setup with 4plugs powering 2 bulbs each. Also, any recommendations for on/off times?

I appreciate your help and expertise!

Never owned one of their products nor have I bought from the retailer. But I've read numerous threads about both. Learn from other people's mistakes.

Actinic Plus, Aquaflora and Aquablue.

5 ati blue plus, 2 purple plus and a GE daylight 6500K

Run 2 lamps 12 hours a day with 2 blue plus for dusk/dawn.
run 2 more with a blue plus and purple plus 8 to 10
run 2 more blue plus 6 to 8
run the 2nd purple plus and the GE 4 to 6 hours.
 
Hey Grim I just bought a 8 bulb PM for my 120...I am going to use 2 blue reef bright LED's on the out side...I am looking for the crazy t5 glow...what do you think I should run? I was thinking...

I don't know anything about t5's but I saw the GE Pure Actinic and liked the way it popped the greens. what do you think about this combo and placement? also is there really much of a difference between the ati purple+ and the KZ Fiji? What kind of look do you think I would get with this combo? feel free to let me know of another combo that may achieve what I am looking for.

ATI Purple is slightly more purple than the Fiji according to some. I couldn't see much of a difference. I assume you mean Guisemann actinic, I'd use a second purple plus instead. Should glow.
 
Grim,

Great thread. Looking to get new bulbs for my 90 with 6 bulb T5 retro. Its going to be LPS dominant with some softies. Looking to really bring out the colors on the acans and chalices. Also looking for that crisp light color, not overly blue. Any thoughts would be great.

I see, so should I now be thinking about changing out one of my 4 Blue+ bulb to the new KZ new generation? This is the first that I have seen this recommendation, usually for a 6 bulb you say 4 blue+, 1 purple+, and 1 GE 6500. I have the ATI Powermodule X 6.

Depends on the look you want. for less blue throw in a new gen.
 
Thanks Grim...So what do the Guisemann actinic do? I don't hear much people talking about them...my buddy said they wont show up to much with all the bulbs on, I have a single 24w on my qt tank and love the crazy glow it gives but it does seem really dim. I just ordered 4 ATI B+, 2 KZ New Gen, 1 ATI purple +, and 1 KZ Fiji...I wanted to order the Guisemann actinic but didn't want to waist the money, but am still wondering what it would of done to the light combo..what do you think the color combo I ordered is going to look like?... really blue, white, yellow....? I also will have 2 blue reef bright bars so I will still get that LED pop. I really want to stay away from the 14k look with out going to overboard with the blue.
