The T5 Q&a Thread

Thanks. Actually, the bottom of the reflector would be about 7 to 8 in above the water. 175k Halide??

I just don't believe there is enough room for 6 T5s in the canopy.

So if one Halide then what do you recommend for two t5's on either side of the halide?

Thanks

Do the Iwasaki 15K halide, best 175 watt lamp out there for PAR and the color is nice too. For the T5's I would use 2 ATI Blue Plus.

I went with your suggestion of an ATI Blue Plus in back and a KV Fiji Purple in front with a 250w Phoenix MH in the middle, and while the colors really pop it looks really pink. I'm using Reefgeek HO T5 retros.

Should I move the Fiji purple to the rear, or swap it out completely and order another ATI Blue Plus?

Will I lose a lot of that coral "pop" taking out the Fiji Pruple? It's an awesome bulb, but better suited for a 4-6 bulb combo I think.

Yeah, try it in back. If that is still too pink then 2 blue pluses. You could try a UVL 75/25 but I don't think it's any less pink. If you are ever up in the Denver area I can fire one up for you to see.

Still have original bulbs that are about 4 months old and my sps are not looking as happy. Looking to replace and I have mostly 70 sps 30 lps. What is the best combo for this and how often would you replace the new bulbs you suggest.

Thanks

Should make them happy and look good.

How is the fiji purple compared to the actinic white? Reason i asked is i ordered the actinic white but they were on back order and they said the fiji purple was the closes match if i didn't want to wait 2 months for their next shipment...

Howdy again grim, Another question for you. Tank is 60x30x18 and want to run 3 Iwasaki 175's in lumen max elite supplemented by T5s. My question is how many do you think it would take to get the color to really pop and not be so washed out. I like a blue look Kinda like a radium 400 watt. Well maybe a little less blue than that. Thanks again.
I plan to run the lights 4 to 6" above the tank. Thanks for your time.

ati aquablue +
uvl 75/25
ati aquablue +
geisman aquablue
uvl 454
my wife said it looks to washed out should i maybe repalce the 75/25 with a uvl 50/50 bulb or something to make the corals pop more and not look so washed out

Hey Grim

I am setting up a propagation tank. The dimensions are 48"L x 12"T x 13"W.

I will be using a 48" 4-bulb Tek light fixture. What would be the best bulb combination for growing out sps corals.

Thanks

Greetings Grim,

I am setting up two 40 breeder tanks running on an 8' stand with the same sump. The first will be full of zoas/palys with some LPS (mostly acans). I'm planning on the second to house a nice blue carpet anemone with pair of GSM clowns.
Considering that I already have some 660's and reflectors to work with, what would you recommend for lighting? Should I run 4 bulbs on tank 1 and 6 on tank 2? Should I go with 6 on each on use the extra two on tank 1 to get pop more than par? I was thinking of running 2 actinics on each tank off one ballast for dusk/dawn and then one more ballast for each tank to run the other bulbs.
Any thoughts and bulb list suggestions would be great.

Thanks

I would think 2 in front and 2 behind the halides would work.

The 75/25 will help push the reds so when the T5's are on without the halide you will get a nice look. You could use 2 blue plus as the first stage dusk/dawn then add the next two lamps for a second stage.

Overdriving 4 of the lamps over the anemone would be a good thing but I would probably only overdrive 4 of 6 lamps over that tank.

For the other tank I wouldn't overdrive any of the lamps

Use the super actinic and one of the blue plus as dusk/dawn.

A few month overdue on my 4x54 setup. I currently have

blue +
ge 6500
aquablue +
blue +

Would these still be the bulbs of choice? Sorry, I'm a little out of the loop.
