Well, I have my 120 gal filled and the 8 bulb TEK light mounted - now for the bulbs.

The last combo I listed you said would be 20K ish. If I wanted something a little less blue, what would this combo look like? I am dropping the Fiji Purple.

4 ATI Blue Plus, 2 ATI AquaBlue Spec, 2 UVL Actinic White
or
5 ATI Blue Plus, 2 ATI AquaBlue Spec, 1 UVL Actinic White

I would do the top mix except probably drop an aquablue for a GE 6500K Daylight

Ok I have two tanks. The first one is a standard 55g tank. I would like to have a mixed
Reef in this one. What would be the ideal lighting for this tank? I won't beable to hang any
lights from the ceiling. Would a 4 x 54w T-5 fixture work for this tank?

Second tank is a 240g 8x2x2 Acrlic tank primarily it's a Fowlr tank but would like to add a few corals
to it. Rite now I have two 48 inch 2x54w Ho T-5 fixtures on it. Would like to have a few
Lps & maybe some softies to this tank. Once again I can't hang a fixture for this one either.
What options do I have?

Im sure its been asked, but what type of intensity drop off is there with time running t5's? I always see people say a year, but thats pretty lame considering some people run 6 hrs and some run 11. So has anyone measured par drop offs after certain amount of hours. Im running an actively cooled fixture if it matters.

4x54 Tek with the legs for the 55.

For the 240 you could use a 6 foot fixture like the Constellation just sitting right on top of the tank. There are also a couple companies starting to make hanging brackets that connect to the stand and come over the tank from behind that might work.

Night seem lame but it's all we got. 10 to 18 months is a pretty good bet.

Hi I am setting up a 60 gal cube, 24x24x24 which will be 90% SPS. I was originally planning on using a 250w Radium but now I am considering a T5 setup instead. What fixture would you recommend? I was considering the ATI Sunpower 6x24 but I am not sure if that would be my best choice for a 24" wide tank. Thanks in advance!

im sure this has been asked before, but on a 75g 6-bulb fixture for sps. Whats the best bulbs for color and growth? big thread. wow

What would be a better choice? A constellation 6" above the water surface or a Sunpower 4 bulb unit 2" above? It's for a 72 bowfront...Thanks!

Grim,

Here is a slight twist on lighting a standard Oceanic 75-gallon RR tank that will be home to mostly SPS plus a few LPS and a coupla clams. The tank has a glass crossbrace.

I have a 12" wood canopy and I am considering installing retrofit T5 and T12 VHO lighting. For the T5, I am thinking of going with an IceCap 48" 4x54W SLR T5 Pre-Wired Retrofit Kit found at reefgeek. It is 10" wide.

For the T12 VHO, I would like to use a two-lamp VHO retrofit set-up that I have. I would use actinic VHO lamps for actinic supplementation and/or dawn/dusk lighting.

What would you recommend for the four overdriven T5 lamps?

Also, how high above the waterline should I install the t5 lamps?

Thank for sharing your expertise.

Gary

Ideally you want the lamps 4 to 6" above the tank but going 8 to 10 would be OK.

hey grim - will it diminish the performance of a regular Tek fixture if i run it at an angle such that the 1st bulb is lower than the 8th? Any difference for the ATI sunpower? I assume convection/air flow would be effected...

Other than having the lamps further away from the water I doubt it.

I have asked this before, but did not get much responce. It was a fairly new kit when I asked before.
So, I need lights. I set my 90g RR tank up over the weekend with about 150lbs of live rock and about 50lbs of live sand all from someone elses tank. He also gave me about 45 gals of water from his tank. If the rock and sand had not been such a good deal I would not have done it without lights first. The rock has a few mushrooms and about a dozen or so zoas, but I have no "real" corals to speak of for now. There are also about 2 dozen little starfish and some snails. So, here I am with a running tank full of rock & sand, sump/fuge and skimmer without any lights at all.
I was considering this:
http://www.hellolights.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1824

Are there any opinions? For the price I think it looks good. I can/will change the lamps when the need comes up. This would be a starter kit. I would add 2 or 4 more lamps later when needed (as I add more coral).
I would be ordering this week, so I need to know if there is another option for about the same price that I have missed.

Thanks,
Joe

Grim you deserve a medal for your work here.

I am building a new canopy and want to replace my VHO Actinic setup. I have mostly SPS and some chalices in a 180g tank.

I will be reusing my 2x IceCap 430 ballasts so I guess they have to be overdriven.

How does this sound? Any changes?

Anyone have something like the Current USA powerbrite lighting system running along their t5s? I have a 6 bulb ATI PM and was wondering if I would be able to see any shimmer lines when all the bulbs were on.

I have a Sundial 4x54 watt over a 55. Right know I have the 2 10,000k and 2 actinic that came with the light. Its time to replace the bulbs and wanted a little more color. I was thinking 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 Fiji Purple and 1 aquablue. Also, which order would you put them in. Thanks!!!!!
