anyone? would it be ok to replace one of the ATI blue plus with a fiji purple?

thanks!

Waited a whole hour and 46 minutes before positing again, yep, must be a girl.

If you want to use the fiji purple use it instead of the 75/25. They both do about the same thing which is boost red.

yeah i am ;)

i wasnt trying to be a pest, i just want to place my order for the bulbs tonite, getting anxious to upgrade from a 14 gallon biocube to a 58 gallon reef ready

thanks grim, now off to see which one is easier to find.. ;)

grim, my TEK is on the way, and I ordered the following bulb combo that you recommended:
Front
ATI Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
Blue Plus
GE 6500K Daylight
Blue Plus
Blue Plus

I also ordered 3 84 cfm fans and a controller that I am going to mount directly above each bank of 2 bulbs, on the label end of the bulbs. My plan is to mount the fans above the reflectors to the top of the light, pulling air in. Then drill holes like the ATI fixture has, through the reflectors right above the label end of the bulbs. Figure with the controller I can turn the fans up or down to get optimum temp on the cold spot of the bulb. Whada yah think? Should work eh? Ill post pictures as I do it. Let me know what you think of the idea grim.

Yeah, you should be able to crank those muthahumpas down where they are dead silent and still push plenty of air. You might need to close up some of the cooling vents too, duct tape will work. I would try to get airflow past the ballasts somehow.

oh, forgot to add that part. Im planning on runnign weatherstripping over ALL the vents on the inside of the light (so it looks good from the outside). Also plan to do the same over the ballasts. Only ones that will be open are directly above the fans themselves. Then i figure the only escape for air will be at the opposite end of the fixture so air will travel down over the label end, then across the bulbs and out the opposite end. Ill have to try and engineer a way to get airflow across the ballasts also. Ill get that figured out when the light gets here.

Hey Grim I changed it up a bit so I can order everything from 1 place. How does this sound. I will also be running 3x250 14kde Phoenix bulbs with it.

Hey Grim. Awesome job with showing the reefing community that T5 can hang with the MH boys anyday. Anyway, I'm thinking of switching from MH to T5 because of electric costs in the MD area and I'm super impressed with the results of fellow reefers in my area and RC. Right now I have a 120 gallon Oceanic Tech tank (48X24x24) lit by (2) 175w Iwasaki 15k lamps and supplimented by 4 dual actinic 65w PC. Its mostly SPS with some LPS (Chalice, Hammer, Frogs) lower in the tank and in shady areas. I'm looking to get a Radium 20k with VHO actinic look without the obscene cost of running 250 or even 400 watt lamps. I'm thinking ATI powermodule, but I'm not sure how many lamps and what color combo. I figured I'm come to the T5 Oracle for advice. Thanks Grim.

I inherited a reef aquarium and livestock minus the tank about 4 months ago. Had a problem with green hair algae but fixed that. Now I have red slime and I'm thinking it's the lighting since the previous owners tank was a tall 50 gal. bow front and all my water parameters are in synch. My tank is 36X18X18. It has a 36X6 T-5 fixture with:

Gieseman 39w Pur Actinic
UV Lighting Aquasun 39w
Super Actinic
GE Ecolux 6500k
Gieseman 39w Pur Actinic
Gieseman 39w Pur Actinic

Lights are on 11 hours a day and fixture is hanging appx 6 in above water surface.
I have nice purple coraline growing in shaded areas and low in the tank. LPS and SPS are doing fine but the live rock nearest the surface looks bleached.

Mr. Reefer I'm thinking cut down the wattage, time on, or different bulb(s).

Any thoughts?

Red slime is more flow related than lighting, You can also use red slime remover to kill it off.

That being said your lighing mix sounds Bluuuuughhh.
I know too much light isn't an issue.

Try this

ATI Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500K Daylight
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus

You are going to need to cut back on the lighting to allow the corals to adapt to the tripling the PAR output you will get with those lamps. I would run a couple Blue Plus for dusk/dawn about 10~12 hours a day and add in the other 4 lamps starting at about 4 hours during that time for midday.

If you can't afford a total relamp right now start out replacing the actinics with Blue Plus or Giesemann Actinic Plus lamps, you will like the change.

My lighting system has kicked the bucket and I'm looking at buying a new T5 fixture. The broken fixture is a sunlight T5 6 bulb 54watt. The fixture hangs over a standard 120 and was wondering what fixture would be a good replacement.
The tank is mainly sps,lps and has one clam. I need to order the fixture by no later then Monday..
Also the fixture must be in stock
Thanks
