The T5 Q&a Thread

Hello Grim. I am setting up a 50 gallon SPS tank. I am going to buy one of the new 36" Sunlight Supply Tek Elite lights. This runs 6x39W T5s. The person where I am going to buy it from recommends the following:
1. ATI Blue Plus
2. GE 6500K
3. ATI Blue Plus
4. ATI Blue Plus
5. KZ Fiji Purple
6. ATI Blue Plus

Do you agree with this selection for a SPS tank?

Thanks!

I'd swap the positions of the FIji and Ge but other than that looks good.

Just got my new 6x54 Sunpower hanging and it's ready to go. This is on a 75 LPS tank. It's replacing a 4x54 Nova. I have the fixture 10" off of the top with the dawn/dusk running from 12pm-9pm and the daylights set for 2pm-7pm. Will this be ok? Do I need to change the schedule or the height?

Yea you will need to adjust the schedule you will be burning your corals. I have the same fixture and when we tested it with a par meter I was getting 400+ par at the highest point

I'm setting up a 60 gallon cube (24"x24"x24") and am in the same situation as Grim Reefer. Going to have mostly sps. Would like to get the ATI 6 bulb 24" fixture or a retro fit kit. Will there be enough par for the sps to thrive? Looking to stay away from mh due to the heat concerns and not being able to have custom bulb combos. LMK. Thanks

8 lamp retrofit would probably be best but a 6 lamp Sunpower will be fine as long as you don't get stuff too far out from under the lights.

Well here's my deal, I have a 500w oddyssea fixture and a solarmax 108 watt fixture over my 75. I would like to do all T5s but my budget puts me at "nova" status. I thought about the 8x54 but the single reflector doesn't sound too good. Then I thought about the pro w/ 6x54 and better reflectors but I don't think its enough light. I say not enough because I'm moving everything into a 90 in a few days. I've read the threads about the nep and it seems I would be losing out from replacing my 608 watts of total light. But I don't like the hassle of the way the lights are set up and the unevenness of the lights. Plus the heat, Fl summer is coming and I have no chiller. I just don't want to be too limited as to what I can keep.
This is the way my lights are set up now.

setting up 70 gal cube 30x30x18 lps sps need good light system that i dont have to build any help?

Is a 4 bulb T5 system with three 24 watt ATi bulbs and 1 UVL 24 watt bulb enough for a 37 gallon (30''L 12''W 17''H) SPS dominated tank?

depending on what you are raising a 6 lamp Tek would be good and like 303.00 right now. They would be good for SPS on the rocks but not too far down.

2 4x24 watt ATI sunpowers would work. Not sure if that is cheaper than the 8x24 watt Sunpower or not but I'd want 8 lamps over that tank. 2 4x24 watt Tek lights would work too.

Grim, i have a current outer orbit fixture with 2 t5 in the front then 2 mh then 2 more t5s. what would be the best bulb set up with the mh for both color and growth. And how would you place them from front to back. Thanks for your help,Dee

A 10 to 12K metal Halide with 4 ATI Blue Plus would give you great growth and color. 10K halide has the highest PAR and the Blue Plus has about the highest as well.

Has anyone w/ the 8x54 nova extreme unit replaced the flat reflector w/ slrs? Any idea what reflectors would fit? I can get my hands no an 8x54 unit for less than 1/2 the cost and thought it would be worth it.
