2 4x24 watt ATI sunpowers would work. Not sure if that is cheaper than the 8x24 watt Sunpower or not but I'd want 8 lamps over that tank. 2 4x24 watt Tek lights would work too.

what do you think of this fixture, and what bulbs, in what order ? 24" 10x24W Powermodule T5 High-Output Fixture

thanks for your help

Sorry, i'm fairly new here. The only place I shop is on drfosterandsmith or marineandreefs, let me know if there is a better place to purchase T5 bulbs (provide link if possible). I'm setting up a 40 Gallon Breeder (36"x18"x16") with 36" Nova Extreme 6x39w fixture. I have chalices (Miami Hurricane, Bubblegum Monster, Pink Watermelon, etc.), Zoanthids (Red Hornets, Purple Hornets, Blue Hornets, Rainbows, Rastas, etc.) and some other soft corals & LPS. I do not keep SPS in my tank. What combination of bulbs will be good for these corals that will provide growth and a nice look? I'm thinking about leaving 3 bulbs on for 3 hours then automatically set 3 brighter ones to replace it for 6 hours then back to the original 3 bulbs to end the light cycle for 3 hours (all together 12 hours). Do i need to leave on all 6 bulbs for corals that are not SPS? Any advice on both combination of bulbs and how to set the timer would be much appreciated. Thank you

www.reefgeek.com for lamps

Front
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500K Daylight
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus

Leave 1&5 on for 10 to 12 hours a day and add in the other 4 for your midday set 4 to 8 hours a day so you are giving them all 6 lamps during that time and a total of 10 to 12 hours with some light on.

Pull a 12K and replace it with a GE 6500K daylight and see what you think

Hi Grim,
I have these lights over my 90 but with no SPS, I am thinking it may be TOO much light?
1 x 54W 6500K Daylight T5 HO Fluorescent (GE0005)
4 x 54W Blue Plus T5 HO Fluorescent (ATI1013)
1 x 54W Fiji Purple T5 HO Fluorescent (KZ0005)
These are over-driven with 2 Ice Cap 660 ballasts. I am seeing a lot of my LPS and zoos look pretty washed out under the lights. If everything is alright chemically, can it be the lights? If so, what would I change with this setup?

Thanks so much!

Could be. Try taking off the reflectors and see if that helps.

Hey grim, I'm kinda new to reef central but I thought I'd ask you a few questions.
I have 35 gallon 24" width and depth and wondering what combo would be best for mostly softie/zoa/lps situation. I want a combo that will make my zoas pop including my reds. Ty very much!

2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and a UVL 75/25 should get what you want.

The 3K just made it a little brighter to me. A little less blue without loosing the color pop. When I get a chance I'll probably try taking it out and using a 6500 instead just to see but right now I love the color and am getting good growth (which was what I was told that 3K was really good for)

The only thing I'd consider would be going to the 10 bulb model since you've got the room (assuming 30" depth and 26 height). I must say I was a little anxious going with the fixture (I was running 400watt MH) but now I wish I'd made the jump long ago.

BTW thanks again Grim for the sound advice on both the fixture and bulb combo. The only thing I did different was I added a GE 3K in the middle.

Mike

What did the GE 3K do for you mike?

I have been following this thread for months and it has been a tremendous help. I’m curious what Grim and every one thinks of the Ice Cap bulbs? I’m running a couple of 430s with Giesemann on a 5” tank and I’m coming up on time to change bulbs.

Just beefed up UVL Lamps. They are OK but with the exception of the actinic white/deepwater I prefer ATI or Giesemann lamps.

Hi Grim,

I took your advice and put the IC Deepwater with the Twilight for the dusk/dawn and I really like it compared to just the 2 Twilights. AT first I wasn't sure but the more I look at it the more I like it. Hubby noticed the change right away.

I know those bulbs are supposed to have less PAR but brand new they sure are bright!! Thanks again for all your input.

I ordered a 24" tek fixture for my 17g (24"x12"x14") and was wondering how high I should raise the light so I don't cook my corals? I'm going with this bulb combo that you recommended:
blue plus
aquablue
fiji purple
blue plus
