I need help with the order of bulbs on my tank. Got 2 lumenmax 3 reflectors for my HQIs, 2 VHO (one 454, one super actinic) and 2 T5 (one fiji purple, one ATI blue plus).

VHO - ?
T5 - ?
HQI
T5 - ?
VHO - ?

Also wondering what the lowest distance I can place these and the colors wont be noticeably separated. The lumenmax reflectors will space the front and back fluorescents out by 11.5" BTW

Front
Super Actinic
Blue Plus
Halide
Fiji
454

Honestly if you want to mix clams and softies halides are better choice. With T5's if you have enough mojo for clams on the bottom you ain't going to keep softies happy.

Hey grim, Im starting a 88x20x24 frag tank, which powermodule should I get to cover the tank ? It will be primarily SPS with high end zoas ans softies. Money isnt an issue. 6 bulb,10 bulb, 2 3ft fixtures ? Whats my best bet

Also can you give me a good bulb combo, with the one you choose for me. I like good growth and color.

Thanks again man

I'd say 2 6 lamp 36" fixtures. I'd do 4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 UVL Actinic White and a GE 6500K Daylight in each.

Well the 3ft ones, are only 13.5 inches wide, and reefgeek rates them for 65g tanks (sps dominated). You dont think I need the 8-10 bulb 3ft fixtures?

Hey grim I Just got a tank that is 29" tall and i was wondering if a nova extreme 8x54 with only a single reflector would do the trick for sps up high and lps at the sand bed and middle area and maybe a clam. also what combo would be the best?

Thanks in advance

If you are going to raise softies you wouldn't want those directly below the lights so I don't know, think I'd stick with 6 which is plenty for high light stuff on an 18" deep tank, I'd say for 20" it should be good but if 8 seems better add a ATI Aquablue and another Blue Plus to the mix I gave you.

Not on something 29" tall. You could keep the SPS up high but nothing but lower light softies on the sand.

The stamped reflectors can be pretty good if made from the good material like the Tek. The Current one's are just polished aluminum and don't do as well.

So Grim I went with 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 KZ Fiji Purple and 1 GE6500K. I went with the GE because I planned to add some blue LED's but that isn't going to happen now for some time.

I am stuck in a little pickle on what bulb to order. I hate the look when all 4 lights come on. I put the GE in back and it looks much better but the back of the tank is yellow now and ugly.

The setup is

ATI BP
KZ FP
ATI BP
GE 6500k

So here are my thoughts and options:

1) ATI Aquablue - Has to go in very front or very back as I really like 2 Blue Plus for duxk dawn.

2) KZ New Generation 14k bulb. - Bluer than the ATI AB but I am afraid of losing the yellow in my Tyree pink lemonade.

3) ATI Blue Plus - I love the look of an ATI BP and KZ FP for dusk/dawn but I think I am really limiting the spectrum if I go this route. I want this look but just brighter.

What are your thoughts before I bring in a new bulb to play with?

An answer to the TEK Elite questions..

An answer to the TEK Elite questions..

Our local forum was debating this new unit....and got a response from the company...which is local.

Not exactly. These fixtures have been engineered to have the correct ambient temperature around each lamp. If you question the output, feel free to contact Sylvania or any other major T5 manufacture for a graph of the output vs temperature. Massive output differences will occur based on the ambient temperature around each lamp. T5 lights have a "hot end" and a cold end, you actually want to cool the hot end and warm the cold end. The Tek Elite blows air across the ballasts (keeping them cool, which extends the life) and blows this air around one end of the fixture (sealed end) across the lamps and out the other end. This in turn achieves exactly what T5 manufactures recommend.

yes, it also has a 98% reflective material and a new "paint job", that is just gravy, the real difference here is the output achieved by running each lamp at the correct temperature.

Simply throwing in a fan into a Tek light (as seen on RC) does very little, these fixtures are truly engineered, not just with a fan slapped in them. Feel free to open one up and have a look (and void your warrantee) they are not the same.

Much of the delays of this fixture has been due to adjusting many different facets of these fixtures to get the correct temperature. SLS tries very hard to be sure everything is correct prior to releasing it.

The 36" Tek Elite, and the 48" 8 lamp are both still being worked on to achieve the correct temperature.

48" 4 and 6 lamp Tek Elite fixtures started shipping today. Only about 5-6 dealers in the nation currently have these available to sell, most of which have them pre-sold.

As more of these fixtures are built (IN washington State, NOT china) they will become available by the masses.

Keep an eye out regarding the Marine Aquarium Expo in OC April 10-11, other technology will be announced by Sunlight Supply at the show.

:dance:My new Elite arrives today!!!!! I'll keep y'all posted on my thoughts!!

Aquablue would be my choice. The New Generation would be more of a 20K look and a 3rd blue plus would definitely be 20K
