Hard to say exactly. It should be fine.

hey grim, thanks for that.
I followed your bulb suggestion, and dude THANKS for the combo. Love the color. Its just perfect.
even though its 12inches high, I get good lighting, but was just worried if I need to keep something on sandbed or lower in the tank. I have halides to supplement them anyway, so I guess its ok.
Thanks again grim

Hey Grim,

Thinking about buying the Stfiligoi LED-T5 combo. Led lights come in cool white 6500K. There are 4 t-5 bulbs on each side of the light. 8x 54w. What type of t-5 bulb combo do you recommend? I was going to order the LED's in all white, so no 20k blue bulbs.

Thanks

I would be inclined to run 4 ATI Blue Plus, 2 UVL Super Actinic and 2 KZ Fiji Purple. Granted the LED's put out some PAR.

What is the recommended life span of T5 lamps?

Totally depends on your system and what bulbs you run.

Crappy fixture with no cooling, 6 months tops.

Good fixture with active cooling (mixed reef tank), 12 months.

Overdriven lamps with proper cooling, 9 months on white bulbs and 6-8 months on blue/actinic bulbs.

Fish only tank, probably could go 18 months to 2 years.

These are all generalizations however. Your corals will usually let you know.

That is the bulb setup I was thinking about ordering. Either that setup or replacing the KZ with a UVL Super Actinic. I'm taking it you highly recommend that KZ bulb?

Thanks Again for your help. I know my clams and coral will appreciate it.

If you want to save some money then switch the KZ for a UVL Actinic White. I LOVE the Fiji Purple bulbs. Tons of actinic pop but it picks up your pinks, reds and purples very nicely. Even my greens look awesome under it. I am staring at them right now. LOL

I'm really not worried about price. As you said in your post above my corals are finally telling me they are not happy. I have the Current Nova Extreme Pro and have let the stock bulbs run 7 months. I was planning on changing them at 1st but when everything took off I just let it be, and now nothing has changed (water quality is actually better than ever) but some corals are not so "happy" anymore.

I just like the glow of the 420 actinic lights, but if the Fiji is as good as some people say I will surely try it. I might order both and see which ones I like better. I have a ton of clams and all LPS and softies, no SPS.

I'm looking to go with an 8 bulb 24" T5 HO retro setup. Would you go with two Icecap 430 or 660? According to Reefgeeks the 430 would only be able to power two bulbs. Is this true because when I look at the drfostersmith catalog it says that the 430 can power up to four 24" T5s. Any help would be appreciated.

Grim,

I currently have a 57g SPS dominated reef. I have a 6x39w Sunpower fixture that I plan on running the following bulbs in hope of a 20k look:
Front
ATI Blue+
ATI Blue+
KZ Fiji Purple
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Blue+
ATI Blue+

What are your thoughts? Will I have enough par for SPS with LPS on the sandbed?

Should be fine. I'd grab an Aquablue as a spare in case you think the above is too blue.

Hi Grim Reeper,
I have a 120 Oceanic Tech tank that is loaded with SPS's, I have 12 54 wt. T5 lamps and my lamps are approx. 12-14 months old. Can you give me some advise on replacement lamps and can I replace them all at once or replace them a few at a time.
Thanks

is the ati 8 bulb power module to much light for a 16" tank with lps and sps? should i get the 6 bulb fixture instead? also thinking about going 1 size smaller, instead of a 36" unit dropping to a 24" fixture any comments?

If you have 12 lamps over a 120 best thing you could do is get an 8 lamp fixture with good reflectors in it.

Depends on how high you mount the fixture. 6 lamp Sunpower would be good or even a Tek fixture.
