The T5 Q&a Thread

Maybe a little because the ATI has the splash shield that keeps the heat from radiating down to the water.

Im currently running an ATI T5 sunpower fixture on my rimless open top tank and its amazing and adds little heat to the tank, all goes to the side.

Now on my new system it has a canopy but with an open top so it will have room to cool.

Do T5 retrofit kits like the Tek on open top canopies put out more heat directly to the tank VS the ATI fixture?

THX in advance

What if I would add a thin acrylic shield a couple of inches below the bulbs to act as a splash shield and maybe have a fan blow on top of it to cool the bulbs also?

Could it work

Yeah but blow the air over the end of the lamps, not the middle part.

Love this thread!

I have a RSM250. It has a 6 lamp T5 fixture with a single textured reflector. With the access panel on the hood the fixture is pushed back a little. I currently have,

Front
ATI Blue+
ATI AquaBlue Sp.
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue+
ATI AquaBlue Sp.
ATI Blue+

The colors are much improved from the OEM setup of Red Sea 3 10000K and 3 460nm's. Par seems improved as well.

Anyone have any ideas on getting better color or maximizing par? Or is this about the best I'll get with this tank.

TIA!

Drop the 75/25 for a ATI Purple Plus. More PAR and perhaps a subtle change in the look. I'd may pull the back Aquablue for another Blue Plus just to see what you think.

Would a 6 bulb 54 watt ATI sunpower with this bulb combo:
ATI blue plus
ATI blue plus
KZ super blue
KZ super blue
KZ new gen
KZ fiji purple

produce a 18-20k look? And how would the PAR be for sps in a 75 gallon aquarium?

Thanks in advance!

Be close but why spend premium prices for KZ lamps?

Blue Plus
Blue Plus
ATI Purple Plus

KZ New Generation

Will give you at least as much PAR, same look for less money.

Ok, is the ATI purple plus similar to a fiji purple? Does it bring out red and pinks?

Sorry if this has already been asked.

I have mixed LED and T5 lighting, and am looking to optimize my colors. My current lights are as follows, front to back:

LED reefbrite strip - blue (somewhere between blue and actinic in color)
KZ fiji purple
UVL superactinic
ATI blue plus
Geisemann 12K
ATI blue plus
ATI blue plus
LED reefbrite strip - white (around 8000K).

I am finding that my reds are a bit washed out and grey-ish looking from all the blue, and that my pinks are too dark. I just find that all the blue makes things look washed out.

What would people here recommend? I can get pretty much any bulb except for GE bulbs (don't know where to find them in Canada). The only limitation with the LED strips is that they can only be outside the T5 fixture. In other words, 1 strip in front and one behind the 6-bulb ATI sunpower. So I can't put the white LED strip in the middle of the lighting scheme.

Any suggestions to better brighten the tank so it isn't as blue-grey washed out? Would people use a UVL 12000 K pink bulb to brighten things? Add another fiji purple/purple plus? Other?

Grim Reefer...

Would you tell me what you would recommend in terms of an ATI Dimmable Powermodule setup for a tank that measures 72 x 36 x 25. I am likely dropping my MH setup for this. Will two 10x39s side by side work ok? This is a strictly SPS only tank. The tank is in-wall so my effective light width is only 30.5 inches.

Can you recommend a bulb setup as well? Thank you.

I guess you like this setup for a 10 bulb still?
