The T5 Q&a Thread

I am currently moving from VHO to T5. The only problem is that I live in Canada. I could get ATI's out of the states, but they would cost loads of money with brokerage and taxes. An online Canadian supplier has the powerchrome bulbs. What are these bulbs?

Here is the link:

I am trying to fit the following into a 75 gallon tanks filled with SPS,LPS and softies. Don't ask why these sizes (I have a DAS tank)

3 - (48" HO T5)
2 - (24" HO T5)
1 - 24" VHO Super Actinic for Dawn/Dusk effects (a must)

What bulbs using the powerchromes which I think are D&D would give me the best effect in lighting. Now If I did go with the ATI's what bulbs would be best.
Thanks for the help.

I have the opportunity to get in on a Sunlight Supply powerbuy. I am going to get a 48'' 6 bulb tek light hood for my 95 gallon tank. I currently have zoanthids, mushrooms, xenia, and kenya trees in my tank. With the powerbuy I can get a discount also on Sunlight Supply bulbs. Originally I was planning on buying 2 Aquablue, 2 blueplus, 1 GE? daylight, and 1 UVL super acitnic. However now I am considering changing my choices to all Sunlight Supply bulbs, on average abou $5 less a bulb. What is everyones opinon? Should I just get the hood and shell out the extra $ for my original bulb choices?

6' Tank: 72" VHO vs 57" T5ho

6' Tank: 72" VHO vs 57" T5ho

I'm planning for the new 210 gal (72"x24"x29") aquarium I will be setting up. I have 3 250W MH I will be using across the tank, and I have an IceCap 430 I will be using to drive some supplemental blue antinic bulbs.

So what I would like some advice on is:
On a 6' tank, would I be better off supplementing my 3 250W MH with 2 160W 72" VHO bulbs, or 2 80W 57.5" T5ho bulbs with reflectors?

I know if there where the same length I most likely would be going with the T5s, but will I notice the bulbs not reaching the last 8" on each end of the tank if I go with the T5s?

Thanks for the advice!

mkarston,
I have the similar set up and have the new helios T-5III fits 72" units with 105 watt HO super blue O3 in there. The hoods are nice and no extra wiring. Plus fixture has water resistant end caps
About 100.00 with bulb

Mkarston,
bulbs are 72" so it lights up the whole tank with O3. The shorter bulbs did create are that where not illuminated by O3.

yamaha, add 2 ati actinic +, and 2 UV super actinics. i would think that would work quite well, but if its too blue, substitute a aquablue for one of the super actinics or Actinic+

grim what light combo should i do for my 5x54wtek set up im about to order? but i want to use 1 of the GE 65k

Did you mean 4x54?

Hi Grim. Which fixture would be better for my standard 55gallon? The aquactinics 48" 5 bulb or the tek 48" 6 bulb fixture. I am planning on keeping sps on the rocks and clams on the sand.

I believe the Tek 6 bulb fixture is too wide for a standard 55g tank.

Will an Ice Cap 660 run 6X54 watt t5ho bulbs?
or 4X80watt t5ho bulbs?

can it be run on 2 different switches for dawn/dusk control?

i believe it will only run 4x54 of t5ho, and 3x80 t5ho.

see the IC automatically overdrives 54 watt t5ho to 80 watts or so, and the 80 watt t5s to 100 watts.

and no, you cant switch it to run different sets at different times. all on or all off is all you can do
