Grim,
Ive read this thread and am dizzy. Im seting up a 30 gallon (36x10x17 high) for lps and softies. I decide to get an icecap with 4 - 39 watts. What i am confused about are the names of the lamps. These are my choices:
Four German-made T5 lamps

6000K Sun

Aquablue Special 11000K (60/40)

Actinic/Blue Plus

Pure Actinic 03

WHat combination should I choose. I like the blue look but dont want to waste too much potential PAR on atinics. Thanks for your expertise

folks, i too am getting confused and slightly overwhelmed with all the stuff i've been reading and all the pages that i've gone through.

I have a 120gal (4'x2'x2') and plan on have mainly just fish for now but would love to have room for a mixed reef and a clam or two.

I've read that 48" 8x54w will be too much light, so bright that its pointless. That 48" 6x54w would be sufficient enough. Can someone chim in? Each time i'm about to place my order and pick up a Tek light fixture i get this knot in my stomach and read something that makes me hold off again. hahahaha I'm sure some of you know that feeling. Thanks to all.

6 will be fine, just keep SPS up on the rocks. I would run 2 suns, 3 Actinicblue plus and a pure actinic.

8 would be better, especially if you want clams, they need a lot of light. If you start out fish only you don't have to run all the lamps. I don't remember but I think the 8 lamp unit has 2 banks of 4 lamps per switch. Just leave one off. Then when you add corals and clams you will have the mojo to do it.

Johnfaas, Your tank looks absolutely crisp! and the light colored cabinet/trim... i havent seen that.

Also with it being about another $80 for the 8 lamp vises the 6 lamp. Why not then huh. Sometimes the simpliest question can be the most difficult. hahaha sometimes not. just pure stupidity. Thanks guys. Now i can rid that nasty "feeling". =)

When I got the light the one ballist started right up and the the second one lit for a few seconds than made a tik sound, than shut off. I called sunlight supply and they sent a new one right away with a return sticker for the bad light. So as soon as I get it I will put in the other 2-aqua blue+'s and 2- actinic+'s and take pics !

Thats a bummer but at the same time thats really cool too. Knowing that their customer service is on point and not hassle. I'll definitely be waiting see those pictures. Btw, where did you order your light from? reefgeek?

After reading all this, I finally decide to get a sun light supply retro from reefgeek. I plan on using icecap reflectors instead. now im down to what kind of lights to use. I want the tank to have a crisp blue color but not too blue. I have 4 bulbs to play with , I would appreciate and suggestions on what combinations i should use with all the choices, blue+, UVL super atinics, aquasuns 10k, 12k, etc.. Please help!

Grim if your out there...........
On my 30 gal , i decided to go with 1 UVL 10 k Aquasun, 1 UVL super atinic, 1 ATI 12k AB special and on ATI blue plus. They havent arrived yet but any opinions on this assortment would be cool.

Nautilus
Should be more white than blue but a nice crisp look. Put the Blue Plus up front, then the Aquasun, then the Super Actinic and then the Aquablue and you will probably get about the look you are after. If it isn't blue enough add another blueplus to replace the aquablue. The Aquablue is a good spare lamp to have because it is a reasonable replacent for a blue or sun lamp/
