I would run (talking about rows, not lamps)Actinic in slot 2 and a Blue Plus in 6 12 hours a day as dusk/dawn.

Next I would do a blue Plus, Aquablue and another Blue Plus 11 Hours for daylight. (positions 1, 4 and 7

Then do 2 GE Daylights or a GE and a UVL Aquasun in 3 and 5 8~10 hours for noontime

Grim,
a little confused. Would the total on bulbs be:
ATI Blue Plus - 6 bulbs (slots 6, 1, 7)
ATI 12000K Aquablue special - 2 bulbs (slot 4)
UVL 10000K Aquasun - 2 bulbs (slot 5)
GE 6500K Daylight - 2 bulbs (slot 3)

Any particular actinic bulb (superactinic, pure actinic, actinic plus)? - 2 bulbs (slot 2)

Thanks

What makes the Aquactinics better then the tek light that you recommend the Aquactinics? Is it because of the types of reflectors, fans, or just a better product in general? I will be using this on my 29 gal that is 30" long.

looking at the other post about bulb recommendation seeing that you listed 5 bulbs instead of 4 i think that answers my question but would still like to know.

hey grim i have decided to go with a 60" x 48" x 30" tank that way i can use 80 watt t5s and like u said ice cap 660 ballast so
it will over drive the bulbs a little. checked out the tek set ups looks good. tank is going to be in wall so will need to put the retros in a canopy suspended from the celling. would u make the canopy out of wood or steel? thought it might be a lil better in wood could paint the inside white for additional refection. u thought 14 bulbs would be enough which bulbs and in what order front to back would u use? and is 14 gonna cut it? tank will be 80% sps, clams also u can run 4 60" 80w bulbs on one ice cap 660 correct.....thanks grim reefer dude....

The aquactinics fixture has better reflectors, fans (no fan on the tek), and an extra bulb. Each of these reasons alone makes a light fixture put out more par, and these fixtures have all three.

You got it. I would use the UVL Super Actinic if possible.

Save yourself some coin and use 48" lamps instead. You can get the better Ice Cap reflectors that way. You can only run 3 of the 80 watt lamps on the 660 ballast. Not only do you save on the lamps you also eliminate one ballast.

As far as a canopy goes whatever works best for you. you can paint steel white too.

Hey buddy ole Grim, i got a lighting question about the T5's. I got the T5 lighting fixture 4 ft, 4 54 watt bulbs. The bulbs i got were two 6500 k bulbs, one Blue Actinic plus bulb and one Pure Actinic Plus bulb. Let me know if this is a good combination and why is it a good combination if you dont mind? Also when i get the fixture how should i place the bulbs in the fixture?

PS: No football talk, but i am glad you are pulling for FLA.

Grim-
I am going with the Aquatinics 48" for a 4x2x2 tank. My last lighting question is what bulbs and their placement. I'm a diver I don't mind a bluer looking tank since it looks more natural to me. Also where would I look to find out what the diferences are between the bulbs. ( Actinic / Actinic + / super Actinic / 10k / 20k etc.) And what they are best used for. Trying to self educate but there is a lot of conflicting junk out there. Thanks again for the recomendation.

What I went with on my 5 bulb retro works well for me. I have a blue+ in the front and back. That bulb is pretty blue but very bright. I have a 10,000k right in the middle (bright white light). I run a true actinic (very blue but not too bright) and an aquablue special in the remaining two locations. The aquablue special is another bright bulb with a hint of blue.

So, front to back is b+, actinic, 10,000k, ab spezial, b+

I like it a lot, and recommend it highly. It flouresces my candy canes pretty well and has the intensity I was looking for.
