bump???

For the solar Flare I think #2 and #5 are the dusk/dawn slots

I would do this

Aquablue on at 12PM off at 10PM (will be with 3,4&6)
UVL Super Actinic on at 11AM off at 11PM (dusk/dawn with 5)
Aquasun
Aquablue or KZ Fiji Purple if you can find one.
Blue Plus
Aquablue

Yeah, run 2 Super Actinic VHO's and 4 T5's. Use Ice Cap reflectors.

For lamps I would use a UVL Aquasun, 2 Aquablues and a Blue Plus.

For Grim and the other T5 experts out there, I have a few questions. I tried reading back several pages but this thread moves so fast it wasn't helpful. If this is a repeat of an age old question I apologize in advance.

I have an Oceanic 75g rr with an Oceanic canopy. It currently has 4x110 VHOs running on a IC660 ballast that is many years old. I have only softies and LPS at this point but am open to sps/clams if doable. I like the vho's fine but the URI-aquasuns are a little too pink for my liking. Do you think I would be able add a new ballast and 4x54 retro t5's and keep 2 vho bulbs for pure actinic? I have a clip fan at the back of the canopy which is open except for the hinge for the top, but that is the extent of my active cooling. If I can pack that many bulbs in the canopy, what would you suggest for bulbs, ballast, reflectors?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Guess not,

www.apogee-inst.com

it is the QMSS quantum meter with the remote sensor.

Sheesh... Maybe I should just try to borrow one...

Now, for my other question... What bulbs should I get for my 6 x 54w unit, and what configuration?

Thanks, Grim. What ballast would be ok? The tank is 21" deep so I don't think I need to overdrive my bulbs right?

I currently use 2 10k and 2 Actinics PCs on my setup... I am ordering the 4x39 with a 660 to overdrive them I plan on adding another 2x39 later on as I determine where I want to go.

What is a good spectrum spread, I doubt I had a good one with my 10k/Actinic combo, but it was pleasing to my eye, I just want something that will be good for a lot of options in the future.

I would use a couple actinics, a GE 3000K or UVL Aquasun, A GE 6500K daylight, A Couple Aquablues and the rest Blue Pluses

Cheers grim
Will have to track them down over here now
:D

Grim,

Seen your report that you were disapointed with the FM Aqua Solaris unit you tested, but it didn't have the expected ballasts in etc.....

Just wondered if you've since had a chance to test one that has??

Also when I get my 6 tube unit (whether FM or ATI) I'm going with the Gisemann, NarvaBlue2, KZ Coral Light & Fiji Purple... From those what combo would you reccomend & how would you stack them front to back please?

Cheers, Shelton.

What kind of par numbers do you guys normally get when testing directly below the lamps about 5", this is from 6-54 watt bulbs IceCap overdriven with IceCap reflectors? I got about 590 and was wondering if that is considered to be good. I got about 200 around 20" under water. Also, what parmeter is best for the money.
Grim could you please answer this I know you test alot of equipment and are very trusted with your opinions.

Grim,
I have the Aquactinics 6Foot light fixture on my 180 reef tank and it is time to replace the bulbs. What would you recommend for this fixture? Is there any new bulbs out there? My current setup is all UVL and ATI's.This is my setup:

front

ATI Blue plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Aqua Sun
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Aqua Sun
UVL Super Actinic
Aqua Blue

I would just use the triad ballasts. You can run a couple T5's with the VHO on the 660 but I dont think I would. If its more than like 4 years old it needs to be modified to run T5's anyway.

The active cooling of the ballasts more than makes up for the lackluster reflector performance of the FM. The ATI Sunpower has better PAR even through the splash shield and costs less so its kinda a no brainer which to get. The ballasts that came with my Fauna Marin are the same as what they sent me. Osrams ballasts are made in china and labeled Sylvania just like the ballasts that came with the unit.

As far as lamps I would start out with 2 each of the KZ's and add a blue and a daylight and see what you think

Trade 1 row of the Aquasuns for a KZ Fiji Purple if you can find them, captive oceans has them under their zeovit section. I would maybe move that rear Super Actinic lamp a slot or two forward so its light strikes the viewing side of your corals.

I've been following this thread and still have some questions.
I have a 65g 36x24x18 and am putting in a tek t5 6x39.
Which bulbs would be ideal and how would one set them up.
I was told to have the first 2 bulbs (dawn) come on for the first couple hours then bring the other 4 bulbs on. I was told to shut down the 4 bulbs about 1-1.5 hrs and run on 2 (dusk) before going to moonlight. Is this good advice? Thanks!

I posted to this thread around this time last year. Went to search for it and it's back to the top again!

Anyway, Grim or anyone else.....any opinions on the new Sfiligoi actinics?

Grim,

Did you get any confirmation on the Korallen-Zucht PAR readings?

Waiting for 54 watt lamps.
