Grim, you said over in the AO forum 6/01 that you had some Sfiligoi actinic bulbs coming? Did you test their PAR and were you impressed with them? Can you give any type of description of the light they put out? Do they blow all the other actinics away like people were saying?

TIA

Grim, I hooked up the 54w ballast to my 39w tek lamp and the bulbs will flash then go off. Is there any way to fix this or does it mean that the ballast will not overdrive the bulb?

I really couldn't see a difference betweeb the Sfigoli and the UVL Super Actinic. I didn;'t check the PAR, nobody picks an Actinic for it's PAR. I am not done with the lamp though. I want to run one a while and see if it changes once it burns in.

Did you wire it properly? Make sure all your connections are good and the lamps are both seated.

Has anyone seen Hagen's new GLO T5 HO line of bulbs and fixtures. I did and was not impressed. Like the other lower end fixtures, they only had a single reflector for multiple lamps. The lamps seemed bright, but not nearly as much as others I have seen.

Sheesh... Maybe I should just try to borrow one...

Now, for my other question... What bulbs should I get for my 6 x 54w unit, and what configuration?

Anything... Opinions?????

Hows that par reading on the fiji bulb and what color does it emit?

They look like an Aquablue with maybe a little red spiked in so they are different. Had high PAR but I want to check 54 watt lamps before I make a decision.

I have a 40gallon tank that is 36x15x17 and was wondering what kind of t5 lighting i should keep for lps/softies and some clams

Grim,

Since you appear to be the guru of all things "light", I would like to get your thoughts on a couple fixtures. I was originally planning on getting a SS Tek 8x54 for my 90 in-wall that I am planning. However, after reading some post on the boards I am now considering the Aquatinics TX5. One of my questions is would the Aquatinics fixture limit me in types of corals or clams that I could keep? My second question is which fixture would get me the most par to the bottom of the tank? My final question is, Which would you choose?

I appreciate any input that you would have.

a 4 lamp Tek would be fine

For an inwall I would do a 6 lamp Ice Cap retro. If you would prefer a fixture either the ATI Power Module or a Aquactinics Constellation. The TX5 will Limit you a bit, I would be a little hesitent to do a maxima on the sand with one.

I would either do the Constellation or the Ice Cap retro

Teklights suck (and Sunlight Supply as a company sucks). No active cooling means it puts out 1/2 the Par of an equivalent ATI fixture. Aquatinics is definetly a better fixture and should there be any problems they are a joy to deal with.

If you want the ultimate PAR (and the option to have moonlights), you might want to get an Aquatinics SolarFlare. You could keep the highest light needs animal at the bottom of the tank with a SF or a PowerModul for that matter.

James,

Thanks for the reply. That's kinda what I suspected. The TX5 is close to the top of my budget for lighting. The lunar lights would be an added on later, I saw pretty cool DIY setup with LED computer case fans. Do you think there would be a stocking limitation with the TX5? I don't plan on keeping any SPS or a clam, but if I would down the road it would be nice if I would have that option. I would like a solarflare but its about almost twice the cost.

Grim, I am adding an extra 2 t5s to my 4 bulb setup (used to have 2 vhos plus 4 t5s). I am looking for a crisp white to slight blue color (more natural, I guess), but with reasonable coloration. I currently have 2 Blue +, 1 aquablue special, and 1 aquasun. I was thinking maybe another blue + and maybe a GE 6500K would give me that effect. Any recommendations?

Sorry to bother you, I see how many questions you field in the T5 thread... I just hoped that this part of my question could find an answer.

Thanks,

I ended up going with the CoralVue T5's on recommendation of Tgreene.

I am going to use the bulbs that come with the unit for a while, and I will get advice on the config. of them, and let you guys know exactly what bulbs they are
My question is this: When I decide to start replacing them, I will need to know what some recommendations are for what bulbs to buy, and how to configure them
Can you guys help me out here?

Thanks,
