Grim heres a shot of my tank. The lights are temporarily far from the top of tank. Im going to swap out the True actinic for uvl super actinic but do you think i should swap out the geisemann 6000k midday for the ge 6500k?

Running
Blue+
Geisemann 6000k midday
ATI True actinic
Blue+

(Its bare just finish setting it up a month and half ago)

Nice rockwork!

I wouldn't swap the Midday for the GE, niot much of a difference between the two.

Thanks, Ok ill leave it, i thought i had read on this thread a while back that corals actually grew better with the 6000k than the 6500k, That they utilized more of the light, correct me if I am wrong.

I really know of no solid evidence of any company with a lamp that is tweaked to the sweet spot in PAR. Thats not to say it can't be done but I would want to see the graph showing the output.

Be a sport and try this

Front
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue Plus

The 75/25 is called an aquablue but it has more of a pinkish hue to it. With the 2 blues and the super actinic you should get a strong 14K halide look leaning to the blue side. Should make softies and LPS glow with all the actinic in those.
Thanks a bunch Grim!!;)

Hi Grim,

I would appreciate your help with the order of bulbs for my new Ultra Solaris t5 ho fixture.
As you may know it will come with 2 bulbs of each duo, 15000k, 22000k. I think I got them right.
My tank is 6'x2'x2'. The fixture is 5' and has 6x80 watt bulbs. I would like to use the bulbs that come with the fixture and want your advise on the best order to put them in.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Is what I would try first depending how yours is wired.

mine is wired like thise

Ballast 1
Ballast 2
Ballast 1
Ballast 2
Ballast 3
Ballast 3

Have no idea the reasoning behind that but if I am going to keep this thing its getting rewired.

Thanks Grim,
I didn't know you had a solaris.
I have a 5' fixture on a 6' tank. How high off the water do you recommend the fixture be?
Any other hints you could give me would be appreciated.
The lighting fixture was sent from aquarium obsessed 07/25 and I should have it this coming week.

I know you hear it all the time but, I want to thank you for the help you provide to all reefers on this forum. Your involvement encourages us to try new things and renew our energy and interest.

Thanks again icbic

Just pray you don't get the plastic reflector clips, they suck beyond reality. The reflectors hate salt spray. Keep them at least 4" above the water. I personally havent tried this but I hear spraying them down with Zep before us and then use it to clean them occasionally helps.

Grim

I looking for your advice. I am doing a 4x54w retro setup with Ice cap reflectors over a standard 90 gal tank. 24" to the bottom. In your opinion what 4 bulb setup should I go with. I really like the blue light. I will be doing primarily softies at first.

thanks in advance

If you ever decide to do clams on the sand I would add a couple more lights. Account for that when you mount these four so you dont have to redo the whole damn thing to add a couple more down the road.

HI Grim, i was wondering if the ATI Blue + bulbs are an upgrade from the Geissman Actinic Plus bulbs. Looking at the colors they seem to be very similar, but was curious about output. thanks.

I had always gotten more output from the ATI in the past but the last lamps I checked the Giesemann had a slight advantage. I would still lean ATI if both are available because the Giesemann has a dead spot on one end for a cold shoe inside the lamp. Not sure the supposed benefit of the shoe is worth the loss of light at the end.

Grim, off the subject, but love your line on think and know,
"When I used to think I knew it all I really didn't know nearly as much as I do now that I really think I do, I think, maybe.....Sometimes." Honest to God, in a department meeting my department head said, " I think, no, I don't think, I know, I think.
Keep on with the great work that you do.

Grim,

I just changed my Tek 4 bulb combo again from...

Ati Plus plus
Uvl Aquasun
Kz fiji purple
Ati Plus plus

too.............

Ati Plus plus
Uvl Super actinic
Kz fiji purple
Ati Plus plus

My question is Do you think my acros will suffer from the decrease par. (note: tank is 16" tall wirh acros in upper 2/3 of tank).

Thanks in advance,
Ron

Grim,

The overall coloration is improved. However, it is not as bright as i'm used to. I guess I can always put back the Aquasun. I just seen an awesome t5 tank at a LFS running just blue plus & actinic bulbs only. (the colors were amazing...including sps).
