Grim,

Of these that you recommend, which is most similar to my stock Current 460s if I cannot afford to switch them all out right away?

Thanks a bunch man!

Grim, I currently have a 4 x 54 SLR retrofit in my 60 gallon reef with the following bulbs as your suggested.

- ATI Pro Color
- ATI Blue Plus
- ATI Aquablue
- UVL Super Actinic

I really like the look of it but I recently bought an extra 2 x 54 for a total of 6 x 54 and since 3 of the 4 bulbs are kind of old already, I was wondering if you think I should replace them with something better.

The new bulbs that I got are:

- UVL AquaSun
- ATI Blue Plus
- ATI Pro Color

And I can either get the same 3 that I currently have or get something different.

What do you think?

Grim,

I am trying to decide between the ATI 4x24 or the TEK 4x24.
Tank 30G 24x18x17
I am only keeping softies and a very few LPS.

My concern...
Love the ATI...but...will the ATI be TOO MUCH light for this type tank?
or
Just go with the TEK with the lower PAR so I can still have 4 lamps?

I dont want the ATI 2x24 due to limited lamp configs and mixes.

Thanks and happy reefing,
Mark

Grim,
I currently have a Tx5 fixture and have been using it to keep SPS. I have the following bulb setup:

ATI Blue Plus
UV Super Actinic
ATI Aquablue Special
UV Aquasun
ATI Blueplus

The tank is a bit more blue then I like, and I had read that adding some red to the tank would help "pop" colors. I was wondering what you would recommend since I should be replacing my bulbs this month.

Hey Grim,
I am running the 6 foot Aquatinics 14 bulb setup.

Currently I am using this bulb configuration:

Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Aquasun
Blue Plus
GE 6500K Daylight
Blue Plus

It is about time to change out bulbs.
I was wondering if there were any new recommendations since the past year.
When I bought my bulbs there were no bulbs available from Korallen-zucht, Giessman or Aqua Science.

I run a zo-shroom tank and would like a bit more blue for flourescent properties but not over kill.

Thanks,
Sean

Sean... I run the same fixture... aren't you running it with the 7 bulbs side by side... you only listed 6.

Also, I started off with the GE 6500K bulb and did not like it at all... I actually had things start to bleach. How do you like the aquasun bulb? Do you have a pic of your tank?

I was reading the prior post and there is a lot of mentioning that if you want a more blue look to buy 2 of the Aqua Blue and 2 Blue Plus which one is it on the reefgeek site? THere seems to be more than one?? BTW I have a 48" 4 bulb 54w Nova Extreme

Oops. I started a new thread and then realized this is probably the place to ask.

I am completely new to reef aquariums (had FOWLR before), so I'm trying to do some lighting research before I buy.

At the moment, I am planning on starting with soft corals, but I'd also like a bit of flexibility in case I want to try LPS or SPS later on.

Does anyone have experience with the Nova Extreme Pro T5?

I have a 120 gal tank.

Thanks.

That would be fine for softies and most LPS, even SPS up on the top of the rocks

Hey Grim,

what bulbs would you recommend for a mainly zoa and some sps tank? My lighting is cadlights without individual reflectors. A total of SIX bulbs that are 24 watts each and about 24 inches across thanks. I'm looking for a balance of color and optimal growht. I'm a total noob to t5 lighting and would like to start off right. thanks for you time and reponse.

The Blue Pluses. Adding those in place of the 460's will give you a big boost.

Add in a Aquasun and a Blue Plus. I might be tempted to add another blue Plus in place of the aquablue too.

If you really like the ATI just keep it up off the tank a ways.

DO this for lamps
Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Pro Color
ATI Blue Plus

That shouldn't be high enough PAR to cause any problems.

Add a UVL 75/25 where you have the GE lamp. It will give you a scad more blue and bump up the actinic output.

Aquablue lamps are pretty much white. Blue Plus are blue.

Appreciate it.

So the Korallen-zucht, Giessman or Aqua Science bulbs don't bring anything new or better to the party?

Not for my money. The Giesemann are fine out of the box but I've had a lot of people say they like the color of the ATI better or the lamps dont last as long.

Grim I need your help. I was going to go with 8x54 SLR T5 retro for my 120 gl. I was able to get a brand new 4x54 VHO SLR retro on IC660 that I couldn't pass up that came with 2 Giesemann Midday, and 2 Giesemann Actinic. I now plan on getting 4x54 HO SLR.
What bulbs should I get for the HO SLR? I'm looking for a 14-15k look. If I have to buy extra bulbs to replace the Giesemann bulbs that fine.
What 4 bulbs should be on the IC660, and what 4 on the regular HO ballast? Do you think this is too much light for SPS, and LPS on the bottom? Is it also ture that the IC660 changes the color/spectrum of the bulbs(blue bulbs looking almost whitish)? Sorry for all the questions, I just wanted to make sure that I'm going in the right direction with my light setup. Thanks for your help.
