okay, it's 60 wide. i wouldn't have a problem with the corals on the sides? (which i guess the sides would then be good for low-light stuff like acans and rics..... hmmm...)

i'm going to keep using my vho's for now for my actinics, with my 430. 60" superactinics

what bulbs would you suggest for the whites? and how many?

Blue Plus or Actinic Plus
Aquablue
UVL Aquasun
Aquablue

You just wouldn't want to place acans right at the very edge of the tank but yes the edges are getting enough light for low and moderate light stuff.

so whats the best combination for more blue
" " more white
" " equal amount of blue/white
i love the blue color but also love growth soooooooooo yea haha
and finally, i believe i'm going to need reflectors for my fixture, where would i buy them and are they easy to install?
i have the Nova Extreme T-5 Fixtures w/Lunar Lights 4-24watt 24" on a 10gallon tank

Hello there.

Has anyone of you folks used 72" Nova Extreme Pro 12 X39 W.
I am trying to light a 6' Tank.
Thanks in advance...

I have a standard 90 Gallon tank and want to upgrade my lighting to T5s instead of the 260watt PCs I have. What fixtures should I look at? I want to be able to do about any type of coral after the upgrade. I really want the colors to POP though, not just a blue looking tank.

The tank is in my bedroom so I also don't want too much heat. I am not really familiar with how much heat T5s will put out though. Would I need a chiller with an 8 bulb configuration?

Basically where do I need to start looking.

Thanks!

Hi Grim,

Im inspired by your mate Galvins tank so have decided to build a nano/frag tank. 36x8x8. i want a T5 fixture to hang from the roof. i can get a good looking cheap Ebay fixture here in australia. it does have individual reflectors but im sure they arent the best.

it has 4x39w bulbs. Its mainly going to be SPS. i fixture has 2 switches which runs 2 bulbs each. would 4 bulbs be way to much or should i just run 2 of them? or maybe run 2 for 10hours and the other 2 for 4 hours or something.

what bulb combo would you do? I guess i dont need high PAR lamps

Blue plus
actinic
aqua blue
blue plus

thanks

Aaron

Not really any major improvements I can see. You might want to look at maybe doing 2 rows of Aquasuns rather than 1 Aquasun and 1 Midday or visa versa. If you want a more blue look you could replace one or the other with an Aquablue.
Thank you Grim. I ordered the 2 extra aquasuns.

T5's wont cause as much heat as the PC's.

If the fan noise when the fixture is running wont be an issue the aquactinics constellation would be great. They do however have noise due to the air blowing out of the top of the fixture. It isn't the annoying whine of a loud fan, just sound a little like the noise you would hear coming from a dryer vent on the outside of a house if you've ever heard that.

If you can get the ATI Lamps there I would do the Pro Color instead of the Aquablue. The red spectrum really brings out colors and like you said PAR isn't going to be an issue.

Most of those who have gotten those seem to like them. You aren't going to be able to do a full blown SPS tank with them but if you keep the stonies up on the rocks a bit you can do a fine mixed reef with the Extreme Pro. I would replace the stock lamps though, at least the blues anyway.

grim -

i was hoping you could help me with my bulb selection - i am looking at the 24" sunlight tek fixture for a 22"x17"x16" (lwh) with no sand bed tank - i will have zoas, clams and some sps towards the top - thanks.

Grim,
I have been running T5's on my 6' long 24"depth 125 gallon for about a year. Currently I have a fixture from catalina aquarium that has 8 80W Geisman bulbs in a staggered arrangement to span the 6'.
Current arrangment:
Actinic Blue
Aqua Blue
Aqua Blue
Aqua Blue
Aqua Blue
Aqua Blue
Aqua Blue
Actinic Blue

Suggestions?

in regards to my question, i was thinking of the following arrangement ...

front
Blue Plus
AquaBlue
AquaSun
Blue Plus

i wonder if i should try to add a pro color though?? Thanks.

yeah we can get ATI now :D
been waiting 2 years. cost about $30 each but thats ok.
Because its going to be a SPS frag tank i want good growth. would 4 bulbs bleach them? Do the pro colours have any green/yellow spectrum? i will have a lot of blue so will growth be ok?

cheers

Cool...thanks!

So what bulbs should I go with? I love a little bit of blue.
