thanks Grim, I'll only have 5 bulbs when its all said and done though, so do you think it'll look ok like this:

Blue+ 24w
AquaBlue 39w
AquaBlue 39w
AquaBlue 39w
Blue+ 24w

?

No you want to add some color. There is no red in that mix.

Blue Plus
Uvl 75/25
Blue Plus
UVL Aquasun or ATI Aquablue
Blue Plus

I'd use the aquasun in place of a Aquablue to kick in some red and yellow.

Wow great thread

Grim if i may ask:

I have a 48"x20"x12" 55Gal and a 4 Bulb (not Ice Cap) setup that currently has

Odyssea Blue Actinic 54W
Odyssea 12,000k Daylight 54W
Odyssea 12,000k Daylight 54W
Odyssea Blue Actinic 54W

The bulbs are due a change soon (10 months old) and i've got some shrooms, Xenia, polyps, Hammer coral that don't seem to do anything.

Could you suggest a more growth orientated set of bulbs, (and fitting order) i'd like to get a BTA for my ClownFish as i read this is one of the only ones that will grow without MH.

Thank you kindly

hey grim, is a powermodule 36" with 6 39w bulbs enough for a 58g oceanic (L36xH20xW18) SPS only tank?

Thanks

Oh hell ya.

Grimm, how long do t5 lamps usually last, little info on problem, i have a 6 lamp ATI Powermodule, colors dont look as nice as before, did not have fans running at a decent speed (they where really slow at pumping air into fixture at 4.5v, since noticing the problem i bumped them up to 12v), ends of bulbs look black or dark, they are roughly 10 months old, array

I would say they are toast. I can't remember but I think I read that 9v was the sweet spot for the Powermdules. Also make sure you have the label end of the bulbs on the correct side.

Grim,
Can I grow SPS in my tank. Its a Sundial HOT5 4x24 w/ 2 LED. Stock bulbs. 29 gallon tank. Would it help if i changed bulbs?

T5 Suppliments but only 2 bulbs fit

Grim,

Firstly, Sorry I posted as new thread instead of in here.

I tried to suppliment my 46gal. with T5's and remove my PC's but was only able to fit 2 bulbs. I have 2 Giesemann Powerchrome Pure Actinic and 2 Fiji Purples but the spectrum is way off with either one of each or using the 2 purples or the 2 Pure Actinics.

Can you recommend a 2 bulb combo to get some blue back in my tank? The main light is a 250w MH Giesemann 14.5 but the dawn and dusk will only be the 2 T5's.

I thank you for your guidance and knowledge. I'm an old school reefer and this is my first experience with T5's.

Grim, Here is my question. I am setting up a frag tank that is 36 x 18 x 12. I will be growing out zoos, palys, and SPS frags. I am looking to purchase the 36" Aquactinic TX5. Please give me the best bulb arrangement for color and growth. Will this be too bright for zoos and LPS (like acans)? Will purchase any bulbs or fixture for that matter that will work best.

I would like to know was the best setting for the fans on the powermodules, the manufacturer recommends 4.5? could you burn them at a higher speed?

rtparty what do you mean by make sure you have the label end of the bulbs on the correct side? what side should they be on? what difference does it make?

It is likely the lamps have lost a lot of mojo from the heat. If you see a difference it's time to change them now. I would say you should be safe running the fans at 8 volts if they are noisy at 12.

With good lamps I think you will be fine

Try

Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue
UVL Aquasun
ATI Blue Plus

Lotsa PAR and broad spectrum there.

Use at least one ATI Blue Plus. If the halide look yellow at all you probably want to use 2 blue plus. Best thing is to order 2 and just play with the lamps you got to get the best look.

Use the lamps to create different intensity levels in the tank.

the front part of the tank will have lower PAR dure to the actinic lamp.

rtparty what do you mean by make sure you have the label end of the bulbs on the correct side? what side should they be on? what difference does it make?

The label end deal is more important with certain brands of lamps than others but its good practice to put the label end of the lamps in your fixture so the cooling ducts blow on them.

If you remove the lamp and look at your fixture at one end there will be holes between the reflector and endcaps. You want the label side of the lamp installed there.

The deal is the lamp has whats called a cold spot. Some lamps (Giesemann, NARVA, GE I think) have a dedicated cold spot that is under the label end of the lamp.
