so i just got my new light and i love it just the only thing that i dont like it that it really washes out the color of things in my tank..

so my question is...

what bulbs can i use to brighten up the color in my tank and have excellent coral growth

my tank has been stable for a long time now so the water quality is good just need opinions on bulb
i know its pretty much just personal preference

THANKS

What lights, fixture and type of corals do you have?

Get the Tek with the legs but not a splash shield. Also grab a 2 fan Azoo fan array at some point and mount it on the rear of the tank so it blows against the rear edge of the fixture in the middle. You can add that later if you want. You can keep sps and high light clams on the rocks and even the low light clams on the sand. Just don't try small maximas or Croceas on the sand. With the fans big ones would probably be OK.

I have always butted the standoffs right against each other. They were a smosh over 2 1/2 inches and Ice Cap reflectors were right at 2 1/2" so it's tight but they fit.

How would you run Dusk to Dawn with a 4 Bulb 54 Watt T5 retrofit kit fixture, with these these Bulbs?

Blue Plus
75/25
Aquablue Special
Blue Plus

Since UVL does not make 60" bulbs what can I substitute in this config to get the same results? I want all the bulbs to be 60"
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue Plus

Both blue pluses or even try the 75/25 in front and a blue plus in back.

Instead of the 2 UVL lamps use 2 KZ Fiji Purples. They will get you about the same look.

need trouble shooting help
8 lamp, 2 660's, icecap reflectors and endcaps

i've been running t5 for about 3 months now and have burnt out 4 ATI blue + bulbs so far

end caps - don't seem to be the prob because it is a different bulb location each time

ballast - may be at issue because all the blue + are on the same ballast, icecap 660. but again seems quite random to just burn out 1 bulb every couple weeks or so

cooling - was running a cheap wallmart fan but upgraded to two a zoo 2 fans and have them blowing right at the endcap end with the labels

i have not lost any of the other 4 bulbs 2 aquablues, 1 geis act, 1 aquasun

i just switched the two ballasts around to see if that changes anything... any other ideas?

Are the lamps aligned with magnetic north?

:D

Are the lamps burning out all on the same ballast? Even if you swap the ballast you are using the same wiring. CHeck to make sure the lamps fit in the endcaps snugly. Other than that check the Ice Cap forum.

I went from a BLV 14K 400 watter with 1 Giesemann Actinic + and 1 UVL Super Actinic to a Helios 20K with 1 Giesemann Actinic + and 1 UVL super. I run the metal halide on a pulse start ballast. It turned out to be too blue. I replaced the Super Actinic with a KZ Fiji Purple but it's still too blue. I'd like to keep the Helios and the Fiji Purple. Could you recommend a bulb to change out the Actinic + with?
TIA,
Ben

Overhauling my Current T5HO fixture

Overhauling my Current T5HO fixture

Hello,
I had a ballast go out in my 48" Current T5HO fixture last night. So what I would like to do for now in order a IceCap 660 and run the whole fixture off of it. So firstly does that sound like a good idea?

Second, right now I am running the following configuration for bulbs.
UVL Actinic White
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Actinic White
UVL Super Actinic
It makes my tank look a pinkish purple. I was really going for a bluish white. I really like the way a tank looks with some PFO 14000k MH bulbs over it, I'd like to end up with the same color temp with my T5 setup if possible. So what bulb recommendation do you have.

And third, If I could spring the money right now i'd love to get individual reflectors and ditch the Current fixture, but I don't. Does it make a huge difference switching from a setup like mine to individual reflectors?

Thank you,
~caleb

ATI Aquablue should work

Dump one Actinic White and one Actinic and replace it with 2 ATI Blue Pluses.

IC ballast is a bad Idea. You would be better served saving the money to buy one of the good fixtures down the road.

Thank you for the quick response Grim,

I just want to make sure I am understanding you correctly. With this setup I would be running 3 actinic lamps and 1 12000K lamp. Is that correct? If so, will I notice a considerable slow in growth rates of my sps? this is in a tank that is 1' deep.

With the IC ballast, I would be getting it with the intention of using it with individual reflectors in the future. With this in mind would it still be a waste to get the IC ballast now since I have to replace a ballast anyway?

Need a bulb recommendation for a friend. He's got a 29g Biocube and has a Current Nova Extreme 4x24w T5 fixture on the way. He's keeping a mixed reef with some SPS at the top including monti's/acro's and a large ric garden on the sand. Which bulbs and order would you recommend to allow for growth and nice coloration?
