Im convinced, but I cant find the ATI Sunpower anywhere. Is it available state side yet.

Call reefgeek and get put on the waiting list. I heard they were getting a shipment this month but I am not positive.

On a 24" wide tank I would go with the 6 bulb Tek at a minimum. You will be glad you have more than 4 bulbs.

There is not a huge difference between ATI and Gmann but the ATI bulbs seem to last a little longer and have better output.

ATI Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White
GE 6500K
ATI Blue Plus

or

Gmann Actinic+
UVL Actinic White
Gmann Midday
Gmann Actinic+

Great, thanks for the advice. At this point I have committed myself to a 4 bulb fixture. What height from the water do you suppose I would have to put the fixture to get good coverage? MOst of my zoas/palys and lps will be concentrated in the middle front of the tank.

4" is the closest you want to go for splashing. For 4 bulbs over that tank I would probably keep it 6" above the tank and see how that works. Just keep higher light stuff under the lamps and you should be good.

if i change to the 6 bulb setup, which bulbs would you perfer to add to the 4 bulb setup we discussed?

I noticed that it says theres only 2 cords, 1 controlling the 4 middle bulbs and 1 controlling the outer 2 bulbs.

Based on that, and the time schedule, what bulbs should i place where? THANKS!

Will a 6 bulb even fit over the 55? I think a 55 is only 13" front to back and the 6 bulb is 16". You would just be wasting light at that point.

I guess ill stick to 4 then =/

ATI Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White
GE 6500K
ATI Blue Plus

ok for sps future? Would i have to make caves etc for the others?

I feel like a step-child using 80w bulbs for my 180g. Truly not much in choice as the 4' bulbs.

Any suggestions for a 6 lamp:
A. Mixed reef
B. LPS/softies/zoas

Yep you will be good. Just make sure to use some fans to cool the fixture and it will bump output by about 20%.

Anybody with feedback on this potential (9) bulb combo??

Staggered to show lights on the second icecap 660

80w on (2) Icecap 660's

ATI Blue Plus
---Fiji Purple
ATI Aquablue Special
---GE 6500K Daylight
ATI Blue Plus
---ATI Aquablue Special

54w on Icecap 430

ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue Plus

1st the 660 w/ (2) ATI Blue+ and Aquablue come on, then the 430 with (2) more Blue+ and a 75/25.

Then of course the final 660 has some more daylight colored PAR monsters, Fiji Purple, GE 6500, ATI Aquablue.

No actinic lamps for me. IMO they don't very good I'd rather get as much PAR as I can.

only thing not sure of is might want a different bulb on the first 660 besides the Aquablue special. What would go with (2) Blue+ for a nice dusk/dawn?

why do you guys recommend 39W Blue Plus T5 HO Fluorescent
by ATI over 39W Actinic Plus T5 HO Fluorescent
by Giesemann and 39W Super Actinic T5 HO Fluorescent?

thanks,
Marcus

Im wondering, with a 60" tank would it be better to get a 60" fixture. My first thought was to get a 48" and have the ends open for air circulation. Plus bulbs would be easier to find and cheaper.
But now im wondering if the ends of the bulbs have dead spots that wont put out much light . If so that could leave 8" to 12" inches of dead spots on each end of the tank.

What are your opinions. Grim I highly value your opinion, If you are not too busy with more difficult questions.

grim ive got the 220 gallon 72 inches long 30 inches deep 18 inches front to back ive got my hood back two of the ballast are bad thats just my luck this tank has been a nightmare but any way the guy that built the hood put the fans in the ends one blowing air in the other pulling air out will that hurt anything i know you said put theme in the back blowing on the ends they are blowing are down the lenght of the bulbs now please let me know i have time i have to send two ballast back thanks paul go cards #1

im upgrading my Nova Extreme Pro 6 bulb and i just ordered 2 blue+, 2 Aquablue, a fiji purp, and a GE 6500k. ive heard this combo mentioned many times but i just need a few words of encouragement to make me feel better about all the money i just spent lol. how dramatic will the increase in visible light be if any? i do want my corals to pop but i dont really like the super blue look. how will this color combo compare? thanks

Should be day and night difference between the stock lamps. It will be in the same color range as far as the amount of blue in the light but you should see a big difference in colors in the tank.

yea!! Grim.... I finally ordered my bulbs....they were only due to be replaced in September! :( It is a miracle my corals are still alive and doing as well as they are...

here is what I ordered...

4 blue plus
4 454 blue
2 fiji purple
2 aqua blue special
2 super actinic
2 procolor

thinking of first trying this combo..

blue plus
super actinic
fiji purple
454
Aquablue
blue plus
454

what do you think? Am I even close??? Is that a good combo and bulb order...or should they be in some other configuration??? What other combos with the bulbs I ordered would you try??? Again, I am looking for BLUE with POP....I guess some growth would be nice too.... LOL :)

Thanks, Grim!!!

Assuming your fans are wired in like mine

Start with 3 & 5 (fan 1)
Then 1 4 and 7 (fan 2)
then 2 & 6. That gives you maximum cooling.

front
Blue Plus
Fiji Purple
Super Actinic
Aquablue
454
Pro Color
Blue Plus

or
Blue Plus
Aquablue
Fiji Purple
454
Blue Plus
Pro Color

or

Blue Plus
Fiji Purple
454 or actinic
Aquablue
Blue Plus
Pro Color

You get the idea, play.

What color would this combo give?

Blue plus
Koral Light
Aquascience Duo
Blue plus

I am needing a 14k look with some added red to color red and pink corals. UVL does not make 60" lamps so I had to choose from those. I am afraid fiji purple will be too much red, which I don't want. Thx

You really want the Fiji Purple in that mix. Drop which ever is more expensive between the duo and Koral Light and put the purple lamp in. I think you will really be happy with the look. The mix you listed isnt going to do squat for pink.

thanks, Grim...

yes, that is how the switches are wired...I think I will be able to find something I really like with those bulbs I purchased, don't you? Like you showed, there will be lots of options.

How are you liking the UVL 454 so far?
