Hi Grim,

I just got my new lights 4- 54 watts Retrofit Kit for my mixed 75 Gallon, The first set of bulbs I got from the ReefGeek were,

ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25 14000K AquaBlue
UVL 10000K AquaSun
ATI Blue Plus

This was not the color I was looking for, It was Pepto looking to me, So I just ordered.

Blue Plus
75/25 14000K Blue
12000K AquaBlue Special
Blue Plus

I hope this will look more Blue to me, If not what else can I do to give me that bluer look. Also I have the lights 5" off the water is that ok?

Anybody use those Aqua Science Bulbs ? Any 6 bulb combinations that would be good?

hey guys esp mr. grimreefer, i was wondering what a good 4 bulb set up would be. i dont have sps, mostly lps and softies. they are 24w and going over a 13inch deep tank. i dont need max growth but want it too look nice and not too blue. I was thinking 2 ati blue+ a pro color and a blue special.

Probably 2 ATI Aquablues. I would run this setup:

ATI Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Aquablue
GE 6500K
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue Plus

Dump the actinics.
The 12000K ATI Aquablue specials right? I don't want my tank too blue but I'm assuming with the 2 Aquablues having the daylight spectrum in addition with the other bulbs it should balance out & give my tank a good look?

So....the new 4-bulb combo is now b+,75/25,ge/ab,b+. Whats the difference between the old b+,sa,as,b+? & also, why the 75/25 instead of the super actinic ( is it just a par thing)? I don't know if I can give up the super actinic.
I am looking for the best color.

Currently running a 48" NEP

Front to Back:

Stock 460 nm
Super Actinic
Stock 460 nm
Super Actinic
Stock 10k
Stock 460 nm

I tried an Aquamedic 20k in place of the stock 10k and the coral started turning a bit more pastel.

The overall color is fairly nice but I do get a bit too much pink for my liking from the 10k which is really noticeable on the back glass.

Would switching to an Actinic White help at all or is there a better bulb combo all together?

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I will order the fan and the bulbs you recommend. I am running the splash shield but I try to keep it clean. Should I remove the shield?

Rick

If you can keep the fixture at least 4" from the water. The shield cuts down on performance. It traps the heat in the fixture.

What you ordered is a good combo. The UVL lamps are quite pink. Only run an aquasun if you have at least 6 bulbs because it overpowers everything else.

Yep those are the ones. They aren't that blue at all. They are white with a hint of blue. The really blue bulbs are the Blue Plus and those are my favorite bulbs!

The 75/25 gives you a bunch of actinic plus it picks up reds nicely. The Aquasun is a very harsh bulb and unless you run at least 6 bulbs it will over power everything else.

The new combo is a hgiher PAR combo also. Between the Blue Plus and 75/25 you have plenty of actinic.

How old are the bulbs? Current brand bulbs are good for about 6 months IMO then they need replacing.

ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25 or KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500K
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue Plus

I know ICECAP ballast will overdrive T-5HO bulb...

how much more watt will a 48" 54w T-5HO become....

About 80W. Make sure you cool the bulbs properly and they should last about 8 or 9 months.

Has anyone done any PAR readings on the bulbs that HelloLights includes with their fixtures (their Tru Actinic 03 and the Tru 10,000K)?

Doesn't matter if it was drawn in word or in a 3D modeling program and rendered, as long as you get your point across, and you did. Up until recently, I did my design work in Visio, which is only a little more functional than word, tool wise. The model and render where already done, (the concept design by emilecilliers, in UK) and posted in two threads over in DIY, and it would have been hard to describe this tank.

I like this idea very much. I was surprised that you reco 6 tubes front to back, but if I sat and messed with it, 8 probably won't fit. I especially like the led's across the center section. And I can probably stuff some moonlights in there somewhere. You are right, the center section is the nutbuster, and that is what had me stumped.

Now lemme think:

Front:
Blue + (Actinic +)
Aquablue (S or +)
Blue +
.............. stumped I have been workin up combos for 8 lamps on another tank, now I am lookin at 6. What would you suggest to keep the higher light demand critters happy... I think there will be places for the lower light critters namely in the center section....

Thank you very much for your reply.

Regards,

Jim
