The T5 Q&a Thread

I am thinking of getting the ATI Powermodule 10x60"...

I do have a couple questions...

My tank dimensions are 60Lx24dx29h, will the ATI have enough power to run a 29" high tank? My other option is getting a couple HQI's and using T5 to supplement.

Has anyone done any retrofit for Moon Lights with the ATI? What did you use?

It looks like the specs have the 10 bulb ATI with only two cords/switches, so you can only have 2, 8 or all 10 bulbs on at a time. Would be nice to be able to turn two bulbs on at a time to get more of a dusk/dawn feature.

cheers.

Grim what bulbs would you use to achieve this look with 4x24W bulbs
It's 143Gadgets tank, and he said he's using two 250w Radium 20Ks ran on Icecap ballasts (new versions) and two 110w URI Super Actinic VHOs

Thanks!

Man, I'm really spamming this thread with questions.

What's everyone's take on the color of the ATI Sun Pro vs. the KZ fiji purple vs. the UVL actinic white. I currently have an Actinic white and it does help pop the reds, but it's a bit low on PAR. I've heard good things about the KZ lamp and mixed responses on the Sun Pro...

Will you be doing any testing soon on the new IceCap T5's. At 15 bucks each I'd love to see the PAR ratings.

Even better than the icecap SLRS? There isn't much I can do about that, but with correct cooling I should be able to get close.

In my research I've come across suggestions that different bulbs have different cooling needs. Most of what I've read suggests that cooling the bulb at the "label" (where the brand is stamped on the bulb?) is the best bet and that you should blow across the endcaps, not the length of the bulb. Is the different bulb claim true? What is the idea temp of the bulb that I should be aiming for?

Blowing on the label end and down the channel is a biotch with a retro. As a general rule blowing air across the endcaps/lamp ends gets the job done.

I really don't know how the 10 lamp Powermodule is wired up. It should give you enough light for the 29 high as long as you don't hang the fixture too high above the tank

ATI quite making the sun pro a long time ago, maybe you are thinking of the pro color, their red lamp.

The Actinic White and Fiji Purple have about the same PAR. not enough difference worth worrying about. The Pro Color has more and deeper red but low PAR.

It was below a Blue Plus but not by a huge amount.

I've been running a 6x54 tek fixture for 2 months. My oranges look good, and greens are insane. Just about anything green is a nuclear green. Some of my purples and reds are a bit flat. I've got some pink and purple birds nest, and some red planet that are pretty much brown. Showing good growth, but I'm not thrilled with the color.

This is what I have so far. Can someone recommend something that might help?

Change one of the Aquablues for a KZ Fiji Purple. I would also replace another aquablue with an ATI BLue Plus or Actinic Plus

Grim, is there any publication on t5 fixtures, and t5 bulbs and par? i was trying to get to the begining of this thread but gave up after 11 windows open and i still didn't get to the begining. i'm getting a 48x24x20h inch deep tank and was thinking aquatinic 7x54 constellation or the ATI 8 bulb PM. i want to keep sps and have enough power to really give the corals a chance to color up! thanks

so if i don't have any concern as to width of reflector, who's got the best ones right now, Aquactinics, IC, Tek? Or some other company that I haven't seen yet?

here is my bulb line up
Front
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Aquasun
ATI Blue Plus
KZ FP
ATI Blue Plus
all driven to spec, I have 3 ballast so what will be the best way to wire the bulbs and also in what sequence would be best for them to come on and off.. thanks.

Get a UVL 75/25 and try it in place of Aquablue. It has some red output and should pop your reds, pinks and purples better. Fiji Purple would work too.
