Best bulb combo for lps

Best bulb combo for lps

I am going to be using an ATI sunpower 6 x 24w over a 24" x 24" x 18" tank. This tank will house primarily lps with a few clams. I would like to enhance the colors without having too much par for LPS. Which bulb combo would you use?

Thanks.

Hello Grim, I hava a 2 bulb t5 fixture over a 75g. It looks like its time for a bulb change..So I was wondering what 2 bulbs you might recommend. I only do easy corals like shrooms, zoas and frogspawn. Thanks for the help in advance

Only 2 lamps over a 75.... Hmmmm.

I would do a blue plus in front and a Fiji Purple behind. SHould look cool

Thanks grim,

I can also do 6x80, but is that to much light for mostly softy and LPS.

Thank you again,

I had a 6x80 in my 125 and my LPS thrived. There are some pictures of that tank towards the end of my gallery here.

hey grim you recomended some bulbs for me it was 4 ati blue plus, 1 uvl actinic white and 1 ge 6500 k daylgiht, i just got my hamilton fixture in and the firing order is the 1st and 6th bulbs come on then the 2nd and 5th bulbs come on and the 3rd and 4th come on, what would be the best way to position the bulbs and i was wondering what would a figi purple do instead of one of the blue plus, im going to have an sps tank and zoos on the bottom with some lps in the middle, and the fixture came with 54 watt bulbs can it handle 80 watt bubs? thank you for your help

Hey Grim,

I will be purchasing a Miro-4 (I have heard their reflectors are better than IC's) 48" 4x54W HO T5 from ReefGeek. My tank is a FOWLR 150g 60x24x24 with 5" euro all the way around with no coral. What color combination would you recommend for this build? I would like to get the best setup for growing as much Coraline as possible with perhaps a bluer tint.

Thank you very much for your help.

The Fiji is just a little more subtle than the Actinic White as far as the amount of red.
With that order you could do first and last or maybe even 2nd and fith for dusk dawn if you use the fiji.

will the powermodule 36" 6 bulbs will be enough to keep sps anyqhere in a 24" deep tank?

I would say so as long as you keep the fixture close to the top of the tank. If you get it much more than say 4 inches up then I would be carefull where I placed the more light demanding corals but I thin it would still be fine.

Coraline isn't all that fond of intense light IME so that shouldn't be a problem, just keep you water parameters good with maybe a little on the high end of the calcium range.

For lamps do 3 ati Blue Plus and a UVL Actinic White. Should be blue put the red in the actinic white should bring out the color of the coraline and the fish too.

In your particular case where intensity isn't a big issue I would probably use the wider Tek II reflectors if they are still 3" wide. You really want to create a wide light pattern so the fish arent shadowed too much if they are swimming in the back.

Grim,

Thanks for your reply. I will check to see what the width of the Tek 2 reflectors are. Great point in that the Miro 4's may be better reflective, however, that is not what I need for my build. Since this will be my first t5, top being the front of the tank, does it matter if I put the actinic white in the 2 or 3 slot?

Again, thanks for your time and all the help you provide for everyone. It is individuals such as yourself that made me make the switch from swf to rc.

Just play around and see what you like.

I hang over there too, just not in the equipment forum much.

Grim,

I will have a 12 bulb T5 configuration (2x6 bulb-SunPower fixtures; front-back). My plan is to keep SPS, and Clams in a 27" height tank. What bulb combo would you suggest?

Thanks,

Chris

Can I get away with 6 - 60" bulbs on a 150 (60x24x24)? I want to keep a mixed reef?

I would do 8 but 6 will work if you are careful.

Hi Grim,

I'm switching over from MH to t-5. My tank is 22" deep, 72" long, and 18" front to back. The tank is going to be mostly SPS.

What t5 configuration is best for mounting inside the hood? Also, what brand would you recommend? I'm looking for as much light as possible. Thanks!

Reefgeek sells 60" T5 retrofits. A 6 lamp kit using Aqua Illumination reflectors would be great on that tank. You will need to mount a cooling fan on the back at each end so air will blow in from the back down the rows of endcaps on each side. The 80 watt lamps are about 60" long so they cover the length pretty good but you don't want to place high light critters the last 6 inches or so at each end.

ATI Aquablue for a 14K look or Blue Plus for a more 20K look.

Wire them so the 3 Blue Plus lamps are on one circuit for dusk/dawn
