The Time Is Finally Here...

Yeah, that was pretty bad basketball news yesterday. The commentators' chatter last year was about our gunslinging pothead student(s). This year it will be how our coach is a liar and a cheat.

It's raining hard here... I can only think works in Tennessee's favor to slow 'em down and bottle 'em up. I'll need to find my poncho for tonight!

I hope for you guys sake it will stop by tonight....I don't think anything can slow Oregon:lol:

....well I hope Wilcox can:)

Looked good early but like most inferior teams fell apart in the second half:(

When it was 13 to 13 I told my wife it was going to be whoever could make some big plays....and we know who did:rolleyes:

Go Vols!!!

wwwhat the heck happened? we were lookin so good the first quarter. did u notice how quick the O offens set up for the next plays? think our D got tired?

thought i was going to suffocate inside for an hour.

Our D got very tired but we let them get momentum at the end of the second half and Dooley himself said we quit after the pick 6. Oregon has better players but I thought we had the ability to keep it closer. We didn't tackle in the second half. Hopefully we will learn from this.

We dominated a top 10-team for 27 minutes (right when we got away from the run game), then reality caught up in terms of our lack of depth, conditioning (partly explained by lack of depth), and heart (partly but not fully explained by lack of depth and conditioning). I wouldn't throw that last one out there, but in the post game interview, Dooley said that the team quit on him after the pick-6 when we down 14 points. O was simply deeper, faster, better coached, and more disciplined. I won't be surprised if they have one heck of a season.

Best thing I saw: two Oregon chicks with "We Hate Kiffin Too" T-shirts. :D

Next week shouldn't be quite as bad against FL!

Hang 'em high! It's on!

Anybody else going to the game?

Had to work today but got home in time for kickoff. I really miss Ktown this time of year:)

We did about as well as could be expected I guess. A couple less turnovers and it would have been a close game. It's sad how far we've fallen behind the big boys in talent level.

At least we didn't get beat by Vandy(had to get a dig in Gary)...but then again we still might:rolleyes:

Chris

Is it just me, or should we have been trying to run the ball more? Dooley said that the biggest problem was our inability to run the ball. Well, you can't establish a running game without giving it a fair shake. Poole got 10 carries, Oku 5, that's 15 rushing attempts (I'm not counting Sims 8 - most of those happened on passing plays and include sacs). Simms threw 31 times, plus the 8 other attempted passing plays. that's 39 passing plays versus 15 rushing (compare to 29:24 against O and 24:26 against UTM). Since when are we a pass-first offense? Our quarterback is a work in progress and Poole was leading the SEC in rushing until yesterday. We should be rushing 25 plays minimum a game for its own sake and to help open up receivers for Simms to give him some confidence. Am I missing something?

And other out-route intercepted. Saw it coming a mile away. I was hoping Simms was a bit more cerebral. Maybe give him some bubble screens and quick slants?

Yes, ouch Gary. first an FCS loss then Vandy, and both out home. ouch.

Yup.

Coaches' homework: Work on getting 11 players on the field every play. This homework was due yesterday after several plays with 10 players against UAB last week, but apparently wasn't quite mastered with not 12, but 13 players on the field.

We could have won the game on at least 5 plays at the end there. My $.02: Should have just gone for it on 4th and 1 when the defense was off balance on our last drive. I knew calling a timeout was a mistake there. It gave the defense time to recuperate. Instead, we burn the time out and turn the ball over on downs. :(

To be honest I'm not of a "going for it on 4th down guy" and going for it as much as we do drives me crazy, but that's just me. I agree there were several plays that could have won the game. The telling fact for me was I was laughing because I thought Les Miles coaching cost them another game and then I realized it was our coaches who screwed it up:rolleyes:

I'm an "it depends" on going for it on 4th down. It's easy to second guess, but I think that it was the right call in that situation *but* would not have done so after calling that time out. Punting it, hopefully down inside their 20, was a good idea. We were up by four points, LSU's offense was pathetic all day, and Les Miles' clock management is terrible. Have you seen www.thequotablelesmiles.com ? His ability to misform English is second only to former President Dubya.

Miles gave us a win last year in nearly the exact same situation. I don't know how he still has a job...

Yeah I've wondered about the Les Miles hire since our first game against him in 2005 (the Monday night Katrina game). The funny thing is LSU fans (at least the ones I know, and some of them are VERY educated) seem oblivious to the fact that he is an idiot. I'm tempted to send a few of the them the link to that website but I think I will refrain in the interest of preserving the relationships:lol:

The Titans made it a bad weekend for football in this state, 2 games won and then not:(

I thought the same thing yesterday. :( Are you going to get to any Titans games now that you're close to Nashy?

My brother has season tickets so I should make it to a couple. We took the kids to the preseason Cardinals game. It's not like Neyland though:)

MTSU plays Tuesday night so maybe one of my teams will win:lol:

Edit: Now the fins (my pro team before the Titan's came to Nashville) are getting drilled by New England...DOUBLE OUCH!!!

Go Blue Raiders!!!

Spurrier quoted on espn.com by Chris Low:

“I read something interesting in the paper the other day about the Ryder Cup golf matches. One writer said, ‘Whoever wins the Ryder Cup, that captain will be considered somewhere between John Wooden and Vince Lombardi.’ And he said, ‘The loser will be considered like an SEC football coach after a loss.’ He’ll be the dummy. And that’s just the way it is. And we all know that. As coaches, we all know that.”

But in vintage Spurrier fashion, he didn’t stop there.

“Of course, sometimes you can win and still be a dummy,” Spurrier cracked. “We’ve learned that recently, too.”

Now, he didn’t mention any names, but the smirk on his face was priceless.
