The upper lip separating???

Hey everyone! My beloved fuzzy dwarf lion has an issue.

His upper lip is seperating from itself. I have done a search on this forum and google and have found nothing on the subject. It looks like if it progresses it will affect his eating habits. Has anyone seen this before??? If so how do I fix it? Is it old age?

Thanks for the help in advanced.

yes i do

sorry the pics are not the greatest but i hope they help

no hand feeding. yes he is still eating. he is not eating the silversides cause of the mouth. i put the food in and let the current make is seem alive. so it is possible that he hit something while feeding. on the other hand it is the same thing on both sides of his mouth. so idk if it happend on both side. i could not get a good pic of the other side to post the pic

I was thinking, maybe, if he hit his mouth, it dislodged his jaw.
I'm not sure, just wanted to get that thought out there. We'll have to wait for the "experts" to chime in....

Yeah I hope whatever it is is curable. And lockjaw sounds like it could be the culprit. But who knows

We have actually had a lion (P. volitans) that smacked itself on a rock while chasing live prey (it no longer gets live "treats"), and it did indeed appear to dislodge its jaw a bit, but went back into shape on its own in a few days.

It's hard to tell anything from your pix as you may be trying to shoot them from too close a distance and your camera can't focus that close in, so they're a bit fuzzy.

well i tried to get the pix close so you can see what im talking about. from farther its hard to tell what im talking about. in picture 2 and 3 you can see what im talking about. its the same thing on both sides of the mouth

If it's what I think I'm seeing, the fish either bumped it during a strike or it has a mild case of lockjaw, altho I suspect the former. Since the fish is eating, keep an eye on it, and it may pop back into place. Make sure it eats smaller pieces of food.

Usually in these cases, I change some water, get some vitamins in him, go over my food records and see if there are improvements I can make and watch for a couple of days. One of the fuzzies did this a couple of times as I remember holding my breath each time.

You see alot of issues going on as all our tank temps go up in the summer.

Feed him well just in case he stops eating at some point. He will have more reserves to fight if he's a little fatty. Go to the market. Change up his diet. Salmon is fantastic in such times.

Why does his eye have that little bulgy thing under there? Is that discoloration, camera trick or ?

If he's eyes start to get puffy, it's probably bacterial, and I would quickly get him into antibiotics. It's hard to describe, but you can see it in their eyes and face when they are about to be sick.... kind of like the day before you kid comes down with a cold.... you just know somethings up.
