The Volcano Tank - Konolua

I first saw this tank on the pages of practical fish keeping a few years back, very cool concept.

Hey there everyone! Didn't follow up on this for quite sometime. My apologies.

The Volcano Tank had been taken down due to a number of reasons, but I have rectified the situation and look to be setting up it's successor shortly. I have a marvelous idea that I am excited to try and implement. It will be the Volcano Tank on steroids! I am excited. I am planning for a 2015 build, and I will detail it from concept to water fill.

I want to extend my greatest thanks to everyone that has said their opinion regarding my endeavor. We are in a very opinionated industry and folks generally are wonderful and complementary, though some can be harsh. I feel fortunate not to have gained very much negative criticism over this project and I am thankful. My background has taught me that these are incredibly sensitive and worthy little creatures, and they have been removed from their natural habitats, and for that, I try to make the absolute best environment possible. It just so happens to be a great deal of fun in the making!

To reiterate for those folks concerned over the tangs; they were removed after just a few months and they are (still) very happy in their 150+ gallon tanks respectfully. It was a temporary hold from the beginning, but the water quality of the Volcano Tank was so far superior to their prior tank that the lack of water column space was the better trade off.

Again, everyone has been great, and I am deeply moved by the responses and comments that have been made! It was a great 3+ years of Volcano Tank keeping but I am itching to get back in after a 2 year hiatus. My intent is to have an extremely advanced set up this next round. Aggressive and modern lighting, live camera feeds, automation of more than just the water changes, etc. I bet you guys will love it!

2015 should be fun!

Thanks again to all!

Looking forward to the next setup the last one was very creative and amazing to watch as it transformed. Good luck looking forward.

Very nice setup. Our local store has one like this with a fake tree instead of a volcano. Has real mangroves growing out of some of the fake roots...

This was such an awesome tank, I would love to see if he did start up another one and what it looks like if he said it was going to be a lot better because I thought the last one was awesome!

I have a tank that could pull this off...its pretty close in dimensions (36x36x9) but does not have the center drilled overflow. the problem is, like his, this old thing is 1/2" glass and it weighs a freaking ton!! And my wife does not want it in the house...that is the bigger problem LOL

maybe I will get enough motivation to set it up. i was gonna make it a frag tank, but this looks much more fun. especially for the kids.
