The Waterslide & Return Pump Trip

So I have a redstripe hogfish who just recently graduated to the DT from the QT. He went from a 29 gallon biocube to a 180 gallon tank, I'm sure he was excited :celeb1::celeb1:

I went to bed last night after taking the filter sock off the full siphon return line and came down this morning to no hogfish in the DT. Not surprised, he found his way to the back of the biocube the first night he was in there.

Go into the fish room, sure enough: 1 Hogfish looking pleased with himself in the sump.

I tried to get him out a few times, and finally went to get the wife to try. We had breakfast and came down and no Hogfish in the sump! I look all over assuming he jumped out, nope.

Walk around the corner: there is one pale hogfish in the DT, looking rather dazed.

This fish just made a trip through a DC1200 return pump and back into the DT?! I assumed if they went into the pump they'd be chopped bits on the way out?!!

Here is a picture of him, he's VERY dazed and confused, not going anywhere, but is moving and looking around. You can see his dorsal fin is pretty beat up but the rest of him looks pretty much intact.

Do you think he'll make it??

He ate a couple pellets that floated his way, so I'm somewhat hopeful he'll make it, but I just can't imagine how after going through a pump like that.

We've decided his attitude is a little "College Frat Boy Bro" and the wife named him Dylan as the only Dylan's she's known were very, very frat boy bro.

He should make it if keeps eating. Internal damage from the impeller could have happened. Time will tell. I would place a strainer over the inlet to the return pump to keep this from happening again.

I literally laughed out loud when I read that he went through your return pump and made it out, albeit dazed and confused. Glad he's ok.

His plan to clog your return pump and cause an algae bloom failed.

Lucky little guy, thanks for sharing.
