Fliger,

Thank you for your input.

ryansholl,

I don't know who you are or anything about your transaction with Ray but I will ask him.

As far as the picture goes, yes I took that picture and there is another far picture you didn't list (IF Ray listed on Eaby). I think you have already admitted the difference in your argument. Also, my picture was taken from the top without any distraction from glass. I think if you list the other picture we can all have a better judgment.

There is no purple to be found on the coral I received, even under 14k lighting. I fail to see how this could help your argument.

Telltale signs I should have noticed:

Purple eggcrate

Non-encrusted spots on the coral (notice the white spots in my own photo) are purple in yours. Your photos have been altered.

If you'll excuse me, I have to go start a snowblower that hasn't run in two years.

ryansholl,

I am sorry but I don't see any Purple eggcrate at all !! I only see White with Maroon coraleen algae.

Good luck with snowblower.

I also bought corals from Cquarium and have not had anything but good things to say except for this last time. He did not send me a coral that I ordered, and has not refunded me my money or talked with me since about it. That to me is bad business.

If he chooses to do business on ebay and on a website so be it. If he charges different prices, that is his right also. I know many fish stores that have one price in their store and another on ebay or a website.

Ryansholl, it seems to me that the coral was enhanced. There are many other vendors doing the same thing. Unfortunately, buyer beware.

Lance,

Thank you for your input.

I am sorry if I didn't refund you any $$. It could have been easily a forgotten or misplaced email as it gets very hectic during this time of the year. Please contact ASAP to resolve this issue.

As far as the pictures:

I do NOT alter with any software of photoshop. The only thing I do is to darken or lighten the picture.

No matter how good or bad the picture is there will some differences to due to a lot of factors and I disclose all of these factors on my website (I am not sure about Ray). I have been selling corals on the internet since 1997 and I was the pioneer of WYSIWYG idea. If I was trying to deceive any one by alterring my pictures, rest assured I would have not lasted this long.

Other reputable vendors have been attacked on this site about the difference in coloration in the past. These attacks are minor and the good vendors that do business honestly stay in for the long run.

At the end and frankly, If any one doesn't feel confident in ordrring online, then don't. The way I see it as an honest vendor, I have done my job by disclosing that there might be a difference in coloration and the customer have agreed to the deal. However, after the coral was received, the customer tries to back out of the deal.

Don't take it personally. It's just my 0.02 cents :).

Happy reefing.
Adam

I realize that the thread has ventured away from the original topic. Not that I don't feel for your situation or understand the frustration of not getting what you expect.

As far as the "Japanese" justification what I find humorous is the fact that after having tanks in the states and now in Japan, a lot of the corals are cheaper in Japan than in the states. There are always some exceptions, but I find things much more affordable.

I bought a beautiful red hammer coral about half the size of a football, 2 feather dusters, a sun coral and 15g of natural sea water for 6000y or about $55.

Should I buy the Japanese Acan Maxima on CQuarium for $135 or should I buy the same Japanese Acan Maxima on Ebay for $699...and neither is a Maxima?

The bottom line of this whole story is that ECorals and CQuarium are one in the same. They use the same fonts and are quote for quote on the corals they are auctioning on EBAY and the corals they are selling online. They are scammers that have been uncovered, so beware of them, and report them at will to EBay so we can protect other reefers from being scammed who did not read this thread!

hahaha.... doctor64776... that's a real classic quote you got there. I suppose you should print it out, have it frame and hang out your wall at the general hospital where you work :-)

I especially like the statement that " you give doctors a bad name".... yeah stop performing surgery on them micros... you give doctors a bad name. -)

i have a friend that has bought from these guys and for sure these pics are photo shopped no doubt...these guys are scammers no matter what they say and i know that my friends coral was not near what it was in the pic..i have bougth a many coral from online and yes it might not be just like the pic but very clsoe nothing like a totally different color...so i would never buy from them and it is a real shame that these guys do what the do...it is hard enough paying for things in this hobby..then you get peeps like this that just don't care...right on i would report them to ebay as much as i can to hopefully prevent other reefers from getting the short end like others have

 Hey Doc, when you gonna start sending Vicadin in your frag boxes? That's about the funniest thing I've heard in a long time 'you give doctors a bad name'...

I don't understand why a seller would represent a coral as Japanese if it wasn't from there, or a frag from a true Japanese coral. Sometimes I just don't get people in the business of making money off us fish geeks

I have passed up bidding on this guy's ebay listings several times because the hype alone is a total turnoff!

That does sound fishy. Many SPS'ers who know their stuff hold Adam in a high regard (everyone has enemies, though) .... but it does sound strange. The descriptions on the site and on ebay look too similar. I still have a few SPS in my tank that I've had for years from cquarium, my own and when my friend skeets took down his incredible tank. cqaurium was definitely the first and still one of the few online vendors who provide several pix of most SPS.

Anyhooo ... back to bein nerdy.
