thebanker's Fluval Edge Reef

I want to drill the bottom of mine too. How did you do this? I assumed the tanks were tempered or too thin.

Click the tag at the bottom of this thread that says "fluval edge" and find wlyon's thread. I took the liberty of tagging all the cool fluval edge threads I could find.

Oh, I see. The tank is not drilled but he used the upper rim and the flow thru to the overflow box. nice! Easier than drilling the tank and I now have a way to make my sump to be built work.

The glass on the tank is indeed tempered, however if you look at the top of the tank where the water line is, you will notice it is some type of plastic/acrylic material. I took a dremel and cut notches along the back of it much like a standard overflow and then glued on an acrylic overflow box to the back of it.

Tank is humming along. Added a large leather, and left it alone for 2 weeks with only an occasional top-off by my non-reef tanksitter. Looks good.

Brought this goniopora from my tank at home, where the polyps were hardly out due to a cleaner shrimp, too much flow, and any number of reasons. Hopefully it does well in my little LPS lagoon of an Edge.

As I was cleaning the tank, somehow I bumped the light fixture too hard and knocked an LED in the water. I thought I got it out quickly enough until I noticed that it was flickering and emitting a burny smell.

nice lookin edge. have you considered adding a little heatsink and a few cree leds? plenty of room in the top.

Thanks.

I've certainly considered it. Truthfully I'm looking for something closer to a plug-n-play solution, since this tank is at work and I can't spend a lot of time tinkering with electrical stuff. Now if I can do it for cheap, I could maybe justify it - but every time I spec it out, it's almost $180.

What LED website do you have in mind?
