These tangs worth $2000

Start killing all fish or just issue with other tangs

I want the Sohal so bad.. Got a 10ft 560gal and was still recommended not to get it... a friend shared his experience

A friend of mine has one in a 550 gallon. He has had the tang for over 5 years and it is now 12 inches. Its the only fish in the tank now as it has killed every other fish. Grew more agressive the larger it got. Last fish he tried to add was a 10 inch clown trigger. That lasted about 2 weeks before became the latest victim. If he puts his hand in the tank the sohal will attack it. Just a mean fish

All of these fish have lived together in harmony for 3 years so they fact that they all including the sohal all get along and that was part of the apeal to me

I would agree with you for a bit, but when you change their tank and home all things are off. New pecking orders are established. I would be curious if the LFS is keeping them together?

I know some have said a gem is not worth the price but I really like my gem. The personality is like that of other sailfins, which I really like. That being said you can get a Gem cheaper and smaller. In addition I wouldn't bet worried about having a younger smaller Gem or a older larger Gem.

Sometimes moving can be just as hard on a fish that has been in captivity than a new younger fish being introduced into a tank.

If I were you I would maybe pass on these fish. Reason I say this is you are still setting up a new tank. Once you have the tank set up you'll have the room but you'll be adding your most aggressive fish first. I personally like to see sailfins (not to mention the sohal) last. Also I don't like adding expensive rare fish to a brand new tank (I've done it before with mixed results).

On the flip side if you aren't planning on adding any other large fish and these fish are what you are wanting. Then maybe go with this grouping.

Good luck. Big beautiful healthy sohals are something special too.

The advise has been given on the Sohal, do with it what you will but just know you have been warned by several about the eventual outcome of this. I know several others who are in this same position because they are stubborn and did it anyway. It will be a sad day when you come home to find the fish you have had for years and have grown attached to are dying randomly one by one until you're left with a Sohal
