Thieling Roller Mat???

Before the roller mat it all works fine, but after being filters and 'ejected' out of the central bulkhead in the middle of the unit, is where I'm getting a lot of problems.

So from the output of the roller mat, what do you have there?
My explanation was about the output from the rollermat. I forgot to mention that the bulkhead it ultimately drains into is 1.5", and the reverse durso is 2" PVC.

Hey HippieSmell, Is there anyway you can post a pic of your drain setup please. Delivery of my tank has been delayed AGAIN, but a pic would be great for when it is time to set this thing up! TIA. -Tom

I have just started using one and love it already.
Took lots of thought about obtaining the right flow / plumbing configuration but finally nailed it with a gravity feed off my skimmer / refugium drain.
The 650 Gph max flow is essential as I found that anything under 400 Gph simply wasn't powerful enough to carry particles into the mat.
Like many here I built a shelf on the sump to support it.
Drain converted to 1.5" exiting just under the water surface and cut at 45 degrees gives me no problems with noise.

Hi tanks. Had mine on for about 1.5 years now. Love it. I wouldn't worry to much about flow. I have mine on a 1500 litre tank fed directly from the main return. Amazed at what it filters out of the water. 2 things in my opinion to look out for. If you have any lights in your sump for algae try and cover the side of the Matt . Long term it gets full of coralline and algae. Second thing is if you are struggling on flow . Lift up the float switch a little (you can get quite a bit of movement on this). This will help you when setting your flow. Their is a picture showing my set up on my thread , but I do not know how to add a link to it . Sorry . Maybe you can have a look by my user name.

are these the pictures? posted them for you

I am just now getting everything up and running. I figured I would post a pic of how I plumbed my roller mat. It is in a home made stand at the end of the aquarium. I have the 2" drain split. part goes straight into roller mat, and part goes straight into sump. I will post reviews after a few months of use. Thanks again for everyones input!

Update: Not sure if it is something with my plumbing to the unit, but my roller mat constantly has bubbles entering the unit. It is loud AND the bubbles prevents the float from raising and turning the roller. Anyone else have this issue?

I have bubbles, too. I'm not sure it's possible to not have bubbles. It doesn't prevent the float from working, however.

Mine is plumbed with a pump and I don't see that. I know my outlet was noisy at first but it has cleared up - I'm guessing the pipes slimed up. Mine is very quiet now. Maybe you are getting some cavitation? Looks like you have a y where the water enters before your valve? That would be a suspect. Are you feeding it via your overflow?

Mine is fed from the overflow. If his is too, I don't know how to avoid air bubbles.

Mine is fed from the overflow. I have a 300 gallon that I have 2 1" drains that I plumbed together into one 2" drain. The 2" sos y off into roller mat and directly into sump
